They are selling me a new BmC teammachine Slr01 2014 bike. Its an offer since the new 2015 models are arriving soon. The DuraAce electric is t 7.100 and the mech at 6k. Is the 1k difference worth it for electric??

If you're not used to electric, you probably won't think so. After almost two years on Di2, I don't like anything else. I road a mechanical DA bike last week and it's nice and much improved over the older stuff, but I miss the electronic buttons.

The owner of a local Trek shop put 9000 on his Project One bike. He could have had Di2 or anything he wanted, but chose mechanical.
Honestly, I've never tried electronic, but I wouldn't want to hassle with the batteries.

I have experience with both and either way it will be impossible to go wrong. Try the Di2 before you decide; seems like people who try it generally end up owning it. That BMC is an absolutely awesome bike.

Talked to my LBS owner today and he rode a BMC with DA Di2 for 5 months this year, and said the only problem he had was that the Di2 buttons are too close together, and even after all that time he was having trouble with shifting the wrong way.

Take both of them out for a test ride and see what you like better. On a personal note, if you can afford Di2, go for it! I'm currently running 9070 Di2 and I'm loving it! If you want to save money, see if they offer a Ultegra Di2.

Are you going to race the bike? I don't know any racers who, having tried Di2, have gone back to mechanical. For recreational riding, it's arguable that DA of either type is overkill; but then so is a $6000 bike, so if you can afford it, enjoy it.

I'm just making a mental note to charge everything 1000 miles. I'm guessing I can go 1600 miles but I check each month by pressing the two shift bottoms. The light is either green, flashing, or red. It takes a couple seconds. If you didn't ride much you could charge when it's the daylight savings time changes.

If $$$ no issue Di2 is for you. You try it and you'll not go back, best invention since the wheel far as I 'm concerned.

Campy Super Record mechanical. Superior ergonomics. Besides it won the TdF this year and oh btw, Nibali could have ridden EPS but preferred mechanical.

I have DA 9070 mech and Ultegra UI2 - the electronic is SO NICE! I can only imagine what the DI2 is like

For only 1k difference and assuming it's DA9070 (not previous Dura Ace) I would go for that. I had the 9000 mechanical and absolutely loved it, I now have the 9070 and love it more. One of the best parts about the electronic is the remote shifting that you can add. I have the climbing shifter on my bar tops, regular shifters and the space to add TT shifters should I want to later add clip on bars. Pretty awesome.

All that being said if it's a money thing I would either go to Ultegra DI2 (6870) which should cost about the same as the DA Mechanical.

You won't go wrong with any of it. Is Dura Ace necessary even when racing? Absolutely not, Ultegra runs equally well and is just a bit heavier (but a lot cheaper). I enjoy the Dura Ace simply because I've always been a fan boy, I only have the one bike, and at my age I grew tired of saying "I should have..."

I rode electronic shifting, and thought it was amazing compared to my mechanical shifting. But then I rode the 2014 Ultegra, and found that mechanical shifting had gotten much much better. It's still a toss up for me - I personally wouldn't spend an extra $1k on it.

Don't let the battery hype scare you if you go electric. I have two bikes with Di2, and the charge lasts for quite a while. Also, the electric are self adjusting, so less maintenance potentially. I like the electric, I know 1k is a chunk of change, but you won't be sorry.

Di2 has batteries? I thought it was magic. Kidding aside, I charge at 1400 miles (every 45 days or so) and have never seen it register less than half.

I have both DA Di2 and an Ultegra mechanical set up. Both get the job done, but the electronic is a world better.
