Hey All! First Post in Fixed Gear: Aero Track Bike ID Question (Campy Crankset?)

Hey All!

I am a Canadian, but I am currently studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There are a lot of bikes here, and I have no frame of reference for identifying them.

One bike I've been looking at appears to be an aero track bike:

https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-135234018-bicicleta-pistera-con-zapatillas-400-pesos-_JM

Forgive the Spanish. The pictures expand.

Essentially I am interested in the bike because it appears to have a campagnolo record pista crankset. Also, an old velodrome oriented track bike may well have other great parts. And, it's around $85.

I have showed this around in the Classic and Vintage part of the forum. Some people were suggesting that these aero bits are definitely after-market additions.

I was wondering if any of you could help me in IDing the crankset (is there any chance it is anything other than campy?) and IDing whether the aero fairings are likely cheap, or quality.

Thanks a million!

Also, what's the consensus? Could this be fixed up into a sexy bike? Does it look cheap or swank?

If nobody in the c & v forum could help you, you are probably out of luck.

Anybody else find it suspicious that there are no pictures that show you the rear dropouts. Could this possibly be an over-the-top conversion by a guy with a welder and too much time on his hands?

It is very common in Brazil, Chile and Argentina for people to replace road/whatever dropouts for a home made horizontal one. I've seen my fare share.

yes. it could just be horizontal dropouts or even just a magic gear. it also does not appear to have the geometry of a track bike. it definitely looks to me like an old steel road bike that someone put (fiberglass?) aero bits on.

also, that is *not* a campy crank.

would save your pesos for another ride.

Unless you're keen on fixing someone else's mistakes.
