On last Saturday's hard club ride, I somehow injured/strained my popliteus muscle. It's a small muscle behind the knee. It's less sore now, but it's something I have never injured before and I honestly don't know how I even injured it since it's an external rotator of the foot/tibia and cycling should not really use it.
The main symptom is mild pain/discomfort behind my knee when leg fully extended/knee locked.

Also, people put way too fancy components on them and then charge a fortune. I just want a bare frame so that I can slap my spare 105 groupset on it.

Every 8 months or so, I think, "man, it might be fun to put together a light, budget build with an Allez Sprint...." and then I do the math and it doesn't make any sense.

Cold this a.m. and it's not even cold yet: long tights, wool jacket, and vest. Just ordered a packable wind jacket from Pactimo.

Well, well, well - Michelin has finally decided to join the road tubeless party! It doesn't look like they'll be available until March, but I probably won't need any new tires until then, anyway.

...and then, in MN, it gets really cold and I get on the trainer like any sensible person should.

Good thought. The thing is, I have had the same exact setup on my bike for a decade, so I am doubting that as a cause. But if a recurrent or persistent problem I will consider.

Yeah, but a small change in the angle of your ankle flex, at the bottom of the pedal stroke, can throw everything off substantially. Something to consider.

Flacco is an embarrassment, he's done, it's like he's shell shocked or something.

I'm sure yours is good, but I've had bikes set up suboptimally for years.

It seems like the first cold ride each fall leaves me thinking, "why am I doing this? This is dumb." Then I let one or two riding opportunities pass, because of the chill. Then I get cranky at being cooped up. Finally, I'll bundle up and venture out again... and it's not so bad. Somewhat enjoyable, even.
...and then, in MN, it gets really cold and I get on the trainer like any sensible person should.

I wish I could ride to work on the trainer, but anything is preferable to driving. Aside from the overall suck, the drive home with my hands elevated on a cold steering wheel seems to trigger my Raynaud's like nothing else. I bought electric gloves just for that, last winter, but they only helped a little. My hands will go numb from cold while I'm riding, but Raynauds is more aversive and take longer to go away.
I seem to be able to do the commute down to the single digits, which is about all we get around here. I will only do workouts when it's above 25º F and not blowing too hard.

I didn't keep track of the current build cost -- the all carbon Record phase.
I think it's just as well.

This was just a 4 mi commute!

As an aside, is the Metro not convenient to you? PT, and not having to own a car, is one of the things that I miss most about NYC.

And the wines are so much better than you would think. Best bets are the dry Rieslings and Ravines and Forge are the best places to get those. The Wine Spectator scores are almost always in the 90s often as high as 93. Herman Wiemer also has good whites, but they are a very good choice for Cabernet Franc reds. Not as heavy a style as Bordeaux and Cali, more like Loire Cab Francs. Wiemer also excels in the sweet, dessert wine category. IMO avoid the Pinot Noirs. Also in the Loire style, but not worth the time and money. Prices are uniformly reasonable. One other place we like is Anthony Road. We enjoy wine touring in the Finger Lakes every bit as much as in the California districts.

$2k is about where I end up each time, too, either with disc (where I can use my Assaults but the frame and group is more expensive) or with rim (where I need to purchase new wheels). $2k is still a complete built, CF and 105, in my mind, so the notion of it being a budget build just goes out the window. Maybe if I had spare parts sitting around, like some of youse.

That's mighty hardy! For a long time, I used to throw in the towel at about 20°, for both commutes (when I was still in NY) and recreation. I tend to go a little lower than that these days, but single digits is pushing it.
As an aside, is the Metro not convenient to you? PT, and not having to own a car, is one of the things that I miss most about NYC.

It definitely doesn't make any sense. I paid less for my complete crabon bike with better components than the Allez frame itself costs. On the other hand, I really like colors.
