Garmin Edge 520
Hello,
I am interested in buying a Garmin edge 520 and have 3 bikes. Can I move the unit between bikes if I have separate speed and cadence sensors on each bike? I would like to track mileage by bike. Thanks,

Yep. It simply pairs to whatever sensor is currently activated that it has paired to before.

As above, yes. To track mileage between bikes, just set each bike up as a different "activity profile." I have 2 road bikes and a mountain bike, so I have set them up separately and named them in the activities list. Additional fun facts - if you use different activity profiles, you can set the data screens up differently for each one if you want. For example, if you only have power or cadence on one bike, you can set up the data screens for that bike to display or not display those features. You can also specify a default type of riding (road, mountain, etc) for each profile. Hope that helps.

If you use the Garmin Connect app or website, you can edit what gear was associated with each activity. I track mileage that way.
Garmin says that having a bunch of sensors enabled but not active will drain the battery faster. It's not difficult to deactivate them, but hard to remember what's on and off, and they aren't associated with a ride profile AFAIK.

I recently switched from an Edge 520, which I used for over years, to a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. Relatively speaking, compared to the Bolt the Garmin is a mechanical typewriter. I strongly advise you at the very least take the Wahoo into consideration.
I swap my Wahoo between bikes, using different brands of sensors, no problems.

I have a 510 and have profiles for both of my bikes and one for "spin". I use the Garmin cadence sensor and attach it to the spin bike crank arm with a rubber band. That way i get cadence and heart rate during workouts.

I have the Garmin Edge 520 Plus. I use it on all four road bikes and on the mountain bike. I pair it with the magnetless speed sensor and the magnetless cadence sensor. I move the Garmin from bike to bike with absolutely -0- issues.
i have also paired the 520 to my Garmin HMR, my Garmin rear radar/light unit and my Garmin front headlight.
I love the across-the-board integration with all my Garmin devices.
One of the best features of the 520 Plus is that the menus are operated by buttons. I hated the uber sensitive touch screen of the 810.

I have been very happy with the 520 and related, integrated devices. I had some problems with the initial set up, but it was really more my fault for not following the right set-up sequence.
Two of my kids use Garmin watches for long distance running and they love them.

I move my 520 between two different bikes without issue. The 520 is a great computer for the price. You can't go wrong with it.

I had a 520, sold it and bought a bolt. Hated the bolt so returned it and bought the 520 plus. I would highly recommend the 520 plus for the little bit extra that you pay for the features it offers.

I have just moved from a Wahoo Element (big one) to the Edge 820. Main reason I switched is I wanted better integration with my Di2 and Vector3 pedals and the ability to use the Radar unit. While the Element supported Di2 and the Vector pedals it does not integrate as well as the Garmin. The calibration fails about 50% of the time on the Element for some reason but never on my Fenix watch or Edge, the Garmin supports all of the data the vector pedals provide while the Element only has the basics. The Element makes it very hard to see the Di2 battery status (buried in settings menus) the Garmin allows you to put it front an center if you want and warns you when it is low. The Garmin also alerts you if the next gear shift will shift the front chainring if you are in synchro shift mode which makes that SOOO much better.
Garmin mapping/navigation is much much better than the Element.
I do prefer how Wahoo setup is all on the phone, much easier setup process than the Garmin. Garmin is a bit of a pain to initially get setup.

Really like the Edge 520 Plus. It's reliable and very configurable. The latest firmware (4.0) seems to have noticeably improved startup time, battery life and GPS accuracy as well.

Like a lot of people have written before, at first it seemed like a frivolous purchase but now I can't imagine riding without it.
I ride mostly in rural roads, so it is nice to get the audio alert when a vehicle is approaching from the rear.
In heavier traffic areas, like PCH, the constant beeps can be annoying, however.
I then do a quick check on my glass-mounted mirror and if everything looks ok then I just keep on my merry way.
The Varia integrates nicely with the 520 Edge Plus (same as the UT headlight).
Garmin has done a lot to shed its former glitchy image.
I highly recommend it
