Don't crash. After a crash, you might wish you had. I've crashed with unshaven legs and shaved. Shaved is far more pleasant. Less skin abrasion, faster healing, less issues with infection and far nicer to pull bandages off. And the words "thank you for shaving so I don't have to" from the ER nurse are music to the ears when you know her razor will be dragged off that raw skin.
If you never crash, you're right, no advantage.

You only need a pea sized amount of Proraso to shave your face. One of these tubes costs $10 and will last me 6 months, shaving 6 days a week. (I don't shave on Saturday mornings.)

I also was not fooled by the marketing folks that say you need to buy crème marketed for shaving when the regular old bar of soap you already wash off with works just fine. If you happen to prefer all natural/homemade soaps like I do they work even better. No need for 'shaving' products at all, well except for the razor.

I find I also seem to get the best results if I am watching Oprah reruns while shaving.
I guess it's a total mind and body thing...

I first used Proraso when living in Italy and my Gillette shaving foam had run out. Using the Proraso gave me the first really close shave I had ever had. A couple of years ago I saw the product on Amazon and bought a tube. Yes, it's $10 a tube, but one tube lasts me about 6 months. The Gillette foam costs $2 and will last me a month. The cost per day is about the same for me, but I much prefer the result of the Proraso shaving cream. As for the razor, I always buy the bulk Gillette ones at Costco. They seem to work pretty well for me. YMMV.

I don't shave the legs, I used to, and have had enough rash to say that the fear of rash with hairy legs is wickedly overblown. First, cleaning out the rash is the most painful experience. Secondly, if you let the wound dry you'll lose flexibility in the area, and that sucks a great deal, especially when on the knees, ankles, rump and hips. I never tape directly to the skin (I develop rashes from the adhesive), so I learned how to use netting and wraps to hold bandages in place. Oh, and those who wax because they don't want to deal with tape ripping out hair... WTF?
What's funny is there's all this talk about shaving legs, but not arms. In my experience I've had an equal amount of rash on my arms and legs.
Justify it any way you'd wish, but shaving legs is mostly vanity and a desire to "look the part" when donning Lycra. I will admit that hairless legs do look better in kit, but that's about the only advantage IME.

Are you talking about your legs or your nether regions? Because if it's the latter, I have learned from personal experience that after shaving care is just as important as what you use to shave with.

I use Woody's shave gel. My beard is especially tough for some reason, and I've tried probably a couple of dozen different shaving creams, gels, and oils over the years. Woody's is definitely the best I've used. It has been hard to come by; I think it is normally only sold through salons, etc. I've stocked up on the occasions that my wife goes to a cosmetology trade show.

Just regular shower gel since I do it while taking a shower. I also think the comment about the arms is well put -- I've been doing my arms for years. Much more comfortable, chicks dig it, and way easier to stay clean and dry.

I don't shave my legs, but if I were to, I would use "cremo cream."
