Beautiful, but pricey

Roberts steel touring bicycle 57 cm
[h=2]Roberts steel touring bicycle 57 cm - $1500 (Arlington)[/h]

© craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap

(google map) (yahoo map)

condition: good
make / manufacturer: Roberts
size / dimensions: 57 cm

This is a beautiful, custom-built, steel touring bike made in the 1980s for an engineer who is now deceased. He loved it for years; commuting and touring on it. It was built by Roberts Cycles, of England, which has announced that it's moving and "going on sabbatical," so new frames will not be available in the near future, if at all. The frame is equipped with a mix of the top-quality components of the 80s and is well-outfitted for steep mountain touring. The overall condition is good, but it has been used and there are some chips in the paint.

The bike can be shipped, but I would prefer that the buyer inspect it and take possession in person.

Please contact me with questions or if you need a photo of some part of the bike that I have missed. Specifications are below.
Price $1500. Please feel free to make a reasonable offer.

Frame: Handmade with double-butted Reynolds 531 steel and what appear to be Len Phipps hand-cut fancy lugs.57 cm seat tube and 57 cm top tube (measured center to center). Fork with single eyelets and dropouts with double eyelets. Campagnolo forged dropouts and fork ends. Seatstay eyelets for rack mounting. The second set of eyelets appear to have been added some time after the frame was built. 126mm rear spacing.
Suntour XC Pro crank with triple chainrings.
Shimano SPD pedals
Suntour Cyclone MII rear derailer
Shimano Deore XD front derailer
Simplex retrofriction downtube shift levers
Phil Wood sealed bottom bracket
Chris King headset
Nitto bars with foam grips
Shimano aero brake levers
Shimano brakes
SR LaPrade fluted seat post
Specialized Body Geometry Comp saddle
Phil Wood sealed bearing hubs
Mavic Module E CD rims
Stainless steel spokes
Specialized Transition tires
Various accessories; pump, bags, several tools, etc.
