Help! Seat post(without the seat) stuck in the seat tube.

Hey guys, I'm a newb when it comes to bikes, but I recently bought a new one and I started to assemble it when disaster struck. I was adjusting the seat on the seat post by loosening the seat fixing bolt. I was unaware that the actual seat post would fall out from under the seat so I just stuck the whole thing into the seat tube so I could adjust it from there. Unfortunately, the seat post detached from the seat and slid down to the bottom of the tube. I flipped the bike over and tried to shake it out to no avail. I tried using a coat hanger to to pick it out but that didn't work either, so now I'm at a loss on what to do to get the seat post back out. Please help me!

Turn bike upside down, hold wood block on bottom bracket and give it a good rap with a mallet.

Tried that but didn't work. Was able to get needle nose pliars on it and pulled it out.

Is the post a hollow top one? Is so then you can make a pull shaft easily enough to pass through the post top and hook it's bottom end and then pull/slide hammer out. Think of a long all thread rod with a nut ground to a conical shape at the end. I last did this at work using a floor punp shaft and a big cresent wrench being hit with a hammer at the exposed end.

You could try to feed a flexible but non compressable something (heavy wire?) through the Bb shell and up the ST. You could drill a hole (1/4") in the shell and pass a solid steel rod. You could drop into the ST, through the shell, a 3/4" steel ball and shake the frame inline with the ST. Andy.

A long crochet needle, or something that looks like one perhaps?

For really bad stuck ones,
drill a decent sized hole thru the post,,stick a screwdriver,, a big one thu the hold,,

now ya can whack the driver UP from the bottom,,post comes right out.

Clean the tube and grease the NEW post before installing orrrrr

osco53- The OP stated that the post slid down into the ST ALL THE WAY. Only way to drill through the post would also require drilling through the ST. Andy.

Squirt some oil all around in the tube & let it site. Turn over , place a block of wood on the bottom & hit with a hammer. You may have to do this to the bottom sides of the tube, as well.

Consider taking to a LBS and having them finish the assembly, if the seatpost is giving you this much trouble....

Put the saddle clip on the saddle and the seat on the seatpost, first, then put the seatpost in the frame .
