Whats up Bike forums!
Hey I just turned 40 I live upstate NY in the catskills and decided to now to care about my weight and health (Lol ) so I decided to buy myself self a Kona Dew Hybrid bike. I went with a hybrid so I can maybe ride some light trails ( rail trails or so). I havent ridin a bike in many years and went out yesterday for my first ride and did about 8 miles of steep hills and gravel. My butt is little sore today but I'm sure it will get better the longer I stick with it..

8 hilly or rolling miles where you live is a great start. Keep it up. Depending on exactly where in the Catskills you are, there should be a decent number of rail trails, and loops around reservoirs which may allow longer, but less hilly rides.

Yes, there are a few nice trails in Ulster, but they're not evenly spread out. I have a friend in Rosendale, who's a casual rider, but rides from his home to pick up the trail in Cottekill. When you get ambitious, there's now a continuous trail from Lloyd on your side of the river all the way to Hopewell junction. Even if you don't go that far, the vistas from the bridge are beautiful and far easier to appreciate by bike vs. car.
I expect that when you get past the 20 mile ride mark, you'll want to start riding the roads. There's a great network of not overly traveled roads on both sides of the river, and some of the nicest road biking you'll fine in the East.
BTW- if you haven't found it yet, you find this helpful

Awesome thanks for the info! ..I'm going definitely to build up my stamina so I can take those long rode rides and get the full biking experience that the Catskills has to offer.
