Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I guess I haven't posted this here yet.

1983 Specialized Stumpjumper.

When I picked it up last year, it had its current powder coat, but was still equipped with straight bars.

I haven't changed the gearing... or cleaned the drivetrain very well recently. 11-28 7-speed cassette (11-13-15-18-21-24-28) in back.

And 48-38-24 in front.

Weirdly, despite not really being planned that way, the gearing is pretty effective in road rides. The 48-38 usefully 1.5-steps the cassette to create tightly-spaced ratios, and while the high end isn't quite as high as my Emonda ALR, it's higher than my vintage road bikes.

My little experiment with SPD-SL pedals isn't going super well; I'm quickly discovering that the usefulness of MTB cleats does indeed go beyond the "you can walk in the shoes" thing. I'll be switching back to SPD soon: I've got some A520s to try out.

It's a good thing that my rear derailleur doesn't have a Dura-Ace logo on it, apparently:

The rear shifter seems to be able to index the rear shifting, but I have it in friction mode. The lever just feels delightfully light when set to friction.

Also, the front shift lever is missing its cover. I have no idea what happened. One day it was there, the next day I noticed it was missing.

And of course, the most important element of a bicycle, the pump needs to at least semi-decently match the color scheme:

I'm running a v-brake in front and a cantilever in back. No, I'm not using different brake levers for front and rear. Yes, that's kind of dumb. They're long-pull levers, so the rear brake felt extremely weak with the stock pads; using Kool Stop Salmon pads on the rear brake has considerably mitigated that.

Here is mine. 1983 Specialized Expedition, which was of course originally designed as a touring bike. However, this bike is sweet on dirt and gravel as well.

Right? Remember the hill that was peanut butter uphill for a short stretch and then the longish steeper downhill side was too? I totally got back over the rear wheel and just hung on for the downhill. Too fun! That was my first time doing it and I will be back. As good as Barry Roubaix!

Yes, the notorious Mann Road. I knew when they started ringing those cowbells I was in for it. Can't believe I kept the bike upright on that muddy descent. I thought I was going to be dressed in mud from that point on. Incredible.

Here is my Kona cleaned up. 06' Cinder Cone. Bought the frame from Kona in 07' (NOS at a great price) and built it up. It's had three different iterations over the years. I love this frame and in it's current life is a fun gravel bike. A Kona P2 29'er front fork with reliable parts from my bin, I went with "travel agents" to apply the brakes properly with the STI brake levers as they do not have the same pull leverage as MTB brake levers do. Worked well. Attached a pic.

Gravel tire pressure

Guys,
I have 42 mm tubeless, gravel tires on my gravel bike. What's the recommended tire pressure for mixed road/gravel riding? What about for gravel only? Thanks!

The Fargo looks like it came off the set of American Chopper a bit.

Do have to go WTF at the 73mm BSA BB. WTF? Is 73mm BSA common over in MTB land? Also surprised a triple-butted frameset would weigh in at 6.3 lbs.

Nothing special. 1999 Trek 800. Completely stock except for cheapo knobbies, pedals, mud guard, Terry saddle. Debating upgrading components or getting new bike.
