Best iPhone app to track mileage?
Been off the bike for a few years, and now I'm coming back. Rather than use a cyclometer, I'd prefer to track my mileage with my iPhone, which is always with me. Looking at the App Store I didn't see too many options, but maybe I was searching with the wrong words.
So, anyone want to plug an app that seems to do a good job?

You might look into Electronics etc. forum. See this thread for example:

Strava is certainly THE most popular and very likely the best. Cyclemeter is only $4.99 a year and does a great job if your not competitive. It products great stats, saves them to the cloud and (if setup to) emails you a copy (with an online link).
I still keep a computer on the bike just to track the bicycle(s) usage since I ride more than one bike.

Get a Garmin Cadence Sensor and a cheap Garmin Edge 500, upload it to Strava. What happens if you run out of battery from your iPhone and need to make calls ?

I prefer Map my fitness. Strava is ok. Don't waste your money on a Garmin 500 the phone works better. I use a Garmin 810 because I do much longer rides and Iphone battery life becomes an issue with the screen on a lot. If your are not looking at it all the time the Iphone will work fine.

I have used my iPhone for 3 years now, and have tried many apps. So far my go-to apps are Runtastic and Wahoo. I do however export to Strava for Segments and Analysis later on. The transfer is seamless and easy.
I do enjoy Runtastic more than Wahoo, due to the screen layout, the clarity, and the customization of what specs you want to see. Wahoo is also good also, and works better in indoor (track) conditions than Runtastic.
Other apps I've tried are Cyclemeter, Mapmyride, AllSportGPS, Panobike etc...
I have a battery pack that my iPhone slides into, and that way my phone can last up to 6-7 hours. The only problems are when it's raining, or when I go for longer than 6-7 hour rides. Those two factors are making me think of a Garmin instead.

I use Cyclemeter on my iPhone just for kicks from time to time, but still rely on bike computers most of the time. The problem with ePhone apps is they drain your battery, particularly on longer rides. Also, since they calculate your mileage using GPS, the data can be faulty under certain conditions.
I like Cyclemeter because it is inexpensive, simple to use and provides a lot of interesting data. In addition to distance, it records time, average speed, splits, elevation change. It also maps the route. The elevation data, in my experience, is highly variable and will yield widely varying results on different days riding the exact same routes. If you are riding in a city with tall buildings, that tends to throw off the GPS data.
I tried Strava for a while and didn't like it. It seems to be more popular among competitive types who like to compare their performance with other cyclists.
On the other hand, my simple Cateye cycling computer provides all of the data that I want 99% of the time and I can count on it to be consistent and accurate. Most of the time, all I want to know is how far I rode, how long and my average speed.

Cyclemeter is a fantastic iPhone app. My wife uses it on her iPhone 6 and we've been very happy with it. Before getting it for her I did LOTS of research.
Beware: In the US Apple App Store there is more than one app named "Cyclemeter". You want the one by Abvio called "Cyclemeter GPS...". By-the-way, each of Abvio's four apps are relatively the same. In fact, I own Runmeter and it has the exact same interface, capabilities, etc. as far as I can tell. I think Abvio released the same app under multiple names as a marketing ploy. Either way, they have a great app. $5 per year for the Elite extras is a good investment that you'll want to make.
