I remembered Sheldon Brown had a paragraph on it which I just reviewed. I have already optimized the transverse cable and lever angles. The next steps are to get new Kool stop salmon brake pads and make sure the rims are clean. I'm overdue for new bar tape so I will experiment a bit with lever placement before I retape. I hardly ever use the drops but will make sure they are still usable from there anyway. Thanks.

On any given day, my answer would probably be "earlier today", with "yesterday" running in second. Every once in a while, especially in the winter, the answer would be "a few days ago" depending on weather or other factors.

In 2016, I tallied 2,000 miles, so I have a goal of 2,500 for 2017. I'm running a little behind so far, so I have to step things up. On Sunday, my wife and I rode our tandem (no pictures) in the country for a few miles, and I went back out again (with pictures) on a single bike for some hill climbing challenges. I moved up the ranks with ridewithgps, and I'm now #10 for a particular climbing segment, so that was exciting. I also found myself on some new roads which are beautiful.

Saturday -- Chilly, mid-winter day down here in Tasmania.

Our ride started at about 7C, peaked at about 12C and dropped back down to 9C. Coming back to that after being in Canada's 30C temps is a bit of a shock. It will likely take us a little while to get used to it again.

We opted to do a hilly ride today ... a strenuous little 1.97 (very hilly) ride. We're trying to focus on climbing for the fitness aspect climbing provides and also to make longer, less hilly rides feel flatter ... hopefully.

And I got a Queen of the Mountain on a fairly lengthy uphill stretch of that ride!!

I have been riding my bicycle nearly every day!

For today's adventure, I took a quick ride down by the river. There were several wedding parties along the walkway and boats out on the water, though not a ton of people just lingering (it's a bit hot.) Then, I stopped by the bike shop to pick up some nutrition for tomorrow's road cycling adventure, and hit the food co-op to get some bread and sorbet (on sale right now!)

Back from a biking holiday, biked to work the last two days.

Just an update that I eventually had to order the salmon pads online, and they work really well with these older cantilever brakes. They squeak a lot and I will have to toe them in, but they are really fussy to adjust so I've been procrastinating.

My wife and I rode the Tour De Bronx today. There were thousands of riders, every single one of them terribly nice.

The break from biking has been due to rainy weather, work duties that that put me on the clock for 14 hours on some days, son's hospital stay, and waking up too late for the ride to work. I'm considering a motorcycle to get me on two wheels more often and to get me from place to place faster than a bicycle does.

I commute by bike three or four days a week, 27 miles round-trip. My route is in NYC, along the Hudson River which is over a mile wide.

When I don't ride my bike, I ride the subway.

I got a nice long ride in today

I started my ride from the regional airport, where I was returning a rental car. (Short version: husband had a family emergency, which required driving to a far away airport, which required getting a rental at the last minute!)

I managed to get close to 40 miles in riding around in the country. The farmers are finishing up harvesting feed corn now that we've had a freeze, and most of the leaves have dropped.

I came back, took off my bike shoes, switched to a more theft-resistant bike/bag combo, and got a few more miles in picking up coffee, soap, and some food.

I did my routine 7 miles each way commute on Friday. Rarely see anything new. There's a modest climb halfway home and in the spring and summer I pass a few fair weather or noob cyclists on that hill - also some in early September when school starts; but at this time of year with the colder weather I'm the oldest and slowest and usually a couple of people pass me. It seems to be a popular hill for runners, but I try at least not to let them pass me!

Guess what? I rode my bike today...twice!

First, an epic trailer trip to the x-mart to get some random household stuff, including a hamper and two laundry baskets. The 4.2 miles home were mostly into a straight headwind, and I had the single speed, which is what made it epic.




Then, a group road ride! The hill on our planned route was closed due to construction (apparently it was open yesterday), so we only got a tiny climb, but a solid 24 miles.

It's always a good day when I get to ride two different bikes!

Monday. Had dinner at the local mealsite and went to the food bank. They had some free things including some old ball caps. I chose one from a local onion packer in honor of their late founder, who was a really nice guy but couldn't drive worth a bean in his old age and he nearly hit me twice, once standing at the corner...

But I still like onions What the heck.
