Post your Riding Goals for 2010!
I posted this in the 50+ forum, but I guess most of us old farts have "done it all" and are just happy pushing out miles. Since I just started in Feb, I'm trying to catch up for the last 40 years, so I'm packing it in while I still can.
Subject to further consideration, here are my 2010 Goals.
1. Do more Charity Rides. 6 this year, I think We have the Joe DiMaggio Childrens Hosp ride in Feb, MS150, Frank Starke Ride, etc
2. Do a Birthday Ride, for real this year (Jan 10th) Missed it last year cause I didn't start riding until Feb/Mar.
3. Do a century at 20+ mph
4. Do a 35mph sprint
5. Try CycloCross - man, that looks like fun.
6. Ride ~ 100 mi+ each week. (5,000+ this yr)
If I can think of any more ways to torture this tired old body, I'll post them later!

I'm 51--started riding last summer. My goal for 2010 is to start early and put as many miles on the bike as I can between March and November. In my case, a realistic goal is probably 4,000-5,000. I'd be thrilled to do a 20 mph century, but there's not enough flat ground where I live. The climbing really slows me down.

Ride more than I did in 2009. That shouldn't be too difficult.

Average 20+ hrs per week of riding.
Lose the upper-body mass (too much weight room) to get from ~180 lbs to <165 lbs.
Get to Cat 3, hopefully Cat 2 (we'll see about that one).
Get over my manliness and shave my legs.
Win some races.

I like climbing, and while I'm a rank noob, I find myself passing a lot of others on the frequent bridges and overpasses. I'm looking forward to this summers return to Albany on vacation and another great ride though the Heidelbergs.

Let 'em at it. First, they gotta catch me... well I guess that part would be easy. Then they gotta chew though 62yr old grizzle. Not very pleasant, and certainly not tasty.

Pretty hard to beat biking around NYS in the summer. When it's hot, I head up into the Adirondacks and Tug Hill Plateau. Cooler temps, down towards Norwich, Hamilton, etc. One of these days I'm going to make a photo essay of all the historical markers there are along my favorite routes. One farm has a sign on the barn that says "A family farm since 1796." Pretty cool--they're still hanging in there, barely.
I'm starting to grow fonder of climbing. No choice, really. One nice thing about the hills is that they shield you from the wind. Typically, it's from the west. I try to start my rides heading into the prevailing wind and uphill, hopefully finishing my loops going downhill with a tailwind. Then I feel like a cycling god.

10, yeah, now that I see it again, I remember him from some of the videos. Funny thought, I don't remember seeing the General. Of course, everyone looks different in cycling gear. ;^)

Other than just generally finding more time to ride, I only have two specific 2010 goals at this point.
1) I'd like to start commuting in to work at least once a week starting in the Spring.
2) Haven't planned the exact route yet, but I want to ride to my sister's house. Approximately a 120 mile unsupported ride.

Get below 200lbs again, ride 5 days a week at least an hour a day. I've got the itch to compete again so, renewal of license and entry into some RR/crits.

2. Do at least one century.
3. Get started in cyclocross in fall.
4. Drop 10lbs of fat and gain 10lbs of muscle.
5. Make some cycling buddies.
6. Bike to work everyday.
7. Sign up for a crit
8. Impress the ladies with newly developed quads.
...at least somewhat modest

Im new, also. In no particular order, and with varying degrees of realism:
1. Make more time to ride. Another difficult semester ahead, so.. perhaps 100 miles/week? Sadly that would be quite an improvement upon my current state
2. Sign up with my LBS's club and join in on their practice races which are in the works. Also, tuesday night crit practices with the other clubs.
3. Lose ~10 pounds of fat and tone up the limited muscle i have.
4. Be fit and smart enough to _join my first crit and not get dropped!_ Ok, perhaps I should just hope to finish a race, be it the first or 3rd..
5. Conduct the spring break tour that a friend and I are beginning to plan. Im sure that my first century will be included here, if this trip works out.

Ride at least once a week (commuting doesn't count).
Go to spin classes 2 or 3 times a week at least until it warms up so road riding is more reasonable again.
Do the AIDS Lifecycle ride from SF to LA.
Not get run over or crash.
