Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Those guys kept popping up when I was looking for parts for the Cervelo. Yeah, I was a little wary, too, and passed on them.

Do you understand where USC is located? It’s not in Mayberry.

It would be a fun frameset to buy and take a long time to build.

So I’ve cut my staff at work to a skeleton crew so as to minimize human to human interactions. We are down to zero redundancy with a spirit of each of us might need to work a little harder to keep our colleagues safe. I’ve been told to start thinking about who might have to go if there needs to be layoffs. (Angst.)

Then today I get into work and there’s some unknown person sitting there for rounds.

Who are you? I ask.

New technician for my department. Starting training.

WTF?

What about the maybe layoffs? And how does it make sense to train someone when right now we’re not doing anything the normal ways we do things?

PS when I drove out of my neighborhood on the way to work today, I saw three of my cycling friends out for a ride together. #probablygotcoffeetoo

Did you look for decals on eBay? It's trademarked so it comes from overseas.

Ah - yeah, that's the group mentioned in the email. I guess they're just finally getting around to consolidating their brands under the Hayes umbrella. I hadn't heard of them previous to the email.

Looked briefly on ebay. Lots of spermy designs. Not much else. I'll chat with/shoot an email to Hayes/Reynolds and look more later.

I had no idea they were bought in 2018. That's sad. I also didn't know all manufacturing was in China and assembly in Taiwan.

It's all news to me, too. Kind of explains the lower starting price points in the last year or so, though.

"The weight-weenie segment of the market has cooled off and consumers are looking for performance, and they aren't willing to pay for $3,000 or $4,000 sets of wheels," he added.

It's almost exactly what you just posted, only remove the valve decal and move the Reynolds to right by the valve.

Still tempting, but it would be a pile more money to get set up as I'd want, and then I'd still mostly be on the trainer. That money would cover most of me and AG going to Girona with Trek Travel, whenever that's actually possible.

A rider’s air plume has got to over 10’, especially at speed. It’s probably not a great analogy, but sailing upwind, if you’re behind and a little to leeward of another boat, i.e., downwind, you can feel the mechanical effect of bad air up to about seven boat lengths away. The higher the wind speed, the further..

Im really trying to stay the hell away from everyone.

Though going disc would give me the opportunity to finally do away with spoked wheels and my anxious OCD about breaking one.

And you thought you thought the Campy wheels were ugly! I don't mind these, but I think I have less concern than true roadies.

It’s Wednesday so no work. Gonna try to do a solo ride outside this morning and help co-lead a fake group ride this evening.
