I did a structured work out on Saturday and was having real issues with motivation. This morning was just a Z-2-ish ride on the fixed gear for 75'. It was nice: cool and overcast and with a tailwind most of the way.

Just got home from our backpacking trip... I'm stiff and sore all over!
For the remainder of the week, I will be taking it easy on the bike and re-setting my body. Starting next week: increase volume in preparation for El Tour de Tucson, which will carry through into base prep for next year. Shortly after "El Tour" (Nov 21), will drop the volume and start to focus on threshold work - I want to start out next Socal criterium season with a bang! Also, if I can manage to stay fit and uninjured, earn my cat2 upgrade points.

well i'm cooked. 2x20 threshold in an 80 degree basement. almost got the orange jersey on zwift, but my 20min interval was up, decided the structure was more important than the virtual reward! i've got some phish food in the freezer with my name on it

Day off....or so I thought. Storm winds are blowing and winter is coming. Spent the evening pulling a few weeds and putting down grass seed and soil in my front lawn. What little we had died in the drought so we just left it was wasteland.

None. At all. The course was a "lollipop" type. Starting line was on a road, heading uphill for 2-300m, then bomb into the woods for a mile or so, then three laps of a 6 mile loop. Race flyer said it would finish at the starting line; instead it finished at the beginning of the 6 mile loop, at the end of the third lap.
Again, not super upset, as we weren't exactly drilling it, as we knew we had a decent gap between us and the two leaders (both U23 WC racers) and the guys behind us, but still.
Fourth in the STXC after I came unclipped from my pedal not once, not twice, but three times. Same exact spot on the course. Last turn, going from singletrack onto a gravel road. The second time I hit my shin on the pedal hard enough to cut myself to the bone. We'd worked some team tactics pretty well up to the last couple of laps, and I was feeling good enough to try to attack the two WC racers in an attempt to soften them up for a counter/sprint by my teammates, but after that, I couldn't produce much power. The last/third time was on the last turn, heading into the sprint, while passing my teammate. Recovered and almost got another guy on the line, but the line came up too fast.
Used H2O2 contact solution to clean out the wound, found some steri strips, and lashed myself together. Also cranked up the tension on my pedals. No second XC race, as another hit to my leg would have required a hospital visit.

Hour of Power on the long way in to work. Not optimal getting out of the saddle with my particular daypack, but whatever.

2.5hrs mainly z2, but with 26:37 @ 249w 254NP (time trial loop, was my best wattage on the trial course, but the wind and such only made it my 3rd best time). Felt surprisingly good after doing 2x20 threshold last night.

Just did the "drive for the line" workout from the workout recipe book sticky. I liked it; felt like the end of a race (duh). I wish there were more crits or road races left around here this season; seems CX starts 2 weeks earlier here with each passing year. Before long someone will hold a CX training series in May.

I got up and did the morning ride today. 5am wakeup, ride to work, ride to ride meetup at 6:30 then hammer around for an hour. Legs felt terrible, but I made all the bridges and was 2nd wheel or so when we came to what I thought was the sprint.
But man, my legs felt fat and dead.

45 minute MTB loop. I'm not a very good mountain biker, I've done this loop probably 100 times (it's right out my door) and today was the closest I've come to cleaning it, failed on just one super-steep rooty climb that I've never gotten. Didn't feel like much in the way of exercise though, 32 TSS. Saw a bear. No rattlesnakes today.

Chain asploded ~45min into the suffering in the middle of a really kick ass interval set, so I got to take a nice hour long walk home. NP still above 200 so it counts.

You better save something for Friday night, my friend. There's a couple of Masters and local Cat1's but that race is chock full of domestic pro crit racers. Welcome to the bigtime. I'll be working the pit. I hope to see you before and after but not during.

Duh duh duh done.
Ride the MTB, wax the skis and stare at the mountain, do some cross races and use age and that it's a single speed as an excuse for under performing, take the dog for a hike.
I actually stopped doing any structure after track nats. Is there a Chinese symbol for "the Year of The Effit?
