Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I really liked Wire Mesa. But found it strange how hard it was to get a post ride beer.

Fifty mile bike ride for me today on tired legs. Route was meant to be 75 miles but one of the guys wanted to take a bailout option to cut the ride short and I was all in on that idea. Headwind going home, of course. 3000 ft climbing.

Then 45 minutes of rabbiting with the dogs. No rabbits were found but there was high excitement over a field mouse. Baths were necessary. Worked on my bone density a little.

You guys and your level phone apps. Do your apps help you to easily align multiple items at the same height, even with things like doorways and corners in the way? Nooooo. App, schmapp.

I will admit she is true to breed with respect to independence, high intellect and no tolerance for anything she perceives as a threat. She loves people, even strangers, menaces squirrels and song birds and goes nuts when buzzards are about. Of the many dogs I have shared my life with, Daisy is unique and I cannot imagine a better companion.

Really? That’s amazing, I wonder if those numbers were attained in their native country of Turkey where they might (just guessing) be fed better than in America. Because that’s a huge dog.

I can tell she’s going to be hell on the groundhogs, at least she can catch them as opposed to those pesky squirrels.

I rode in city traffic for the first time in five years. Granted, it was Sunday traffic. I'm not yet(or ever) ready to go the full monty.

On the subject of tech., I'm ready for digital soap. Put a bar in the shower and it never wears down to a sliver. Possibly available from Finnland, or Norway

Does it kill COVID-19?

I am struggling to teach myself to keep my hands away from my face in preparation for a transatlantic trip in a couple of weeks. Very hard for someone full of neurotic habits.

I read that book while on tour in 2017. I can picture exactly where I was when I finished it. A must read for sure. Both my parents made choices that hastened their deaths because of poor quality of life. Dad stopped his dialysis rather than suffer from painful cancer that was going to kill him at some point. Mom refused dialysis completely. She had several health problems that were making her miserable.

Cashed in the change I save every day. $235. Nice score. I am thinking new Showers Pass rain jacket for touring. Keep the current one for around town and take better care of the new one.

Hard stuff. I'm glad your parents were able to make those decisions, painful as they must have been.

My dad was put on dialysis past the point where it was remotely appropriate or where he could fully comprehend the contingencies. The conversation boiled down to, "you'll die without it." He, of course, consented. It was nonstop torture for him and sent him deep into an organic depression. When he would refuse to go, we'd ask, "are you okay with dying?" and he'd say, "no," so we'd push him. Ultimately, the blood pressure drop after each session cost him his remaining marbles and one day we finally took him at his word. He had a pretty good 2-weeks and died at home, so we salvaged something. The hospice staff couldn't believe we had allowed him to go on dialysis, but we had the conflict of interest of actually wanting him to die by that point, so we had to defer to the hyper-aggressive academic fleas providing his care.

Part of the problem, I'm sorry to say, is that dialysis is reimbursed 100% by Medicare, making it a profit center.
