Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’m definitely drinking more (water)

the initial pain was so intense I passed out - at a restaurant where we had stopped after a short Friday after-work bike ride … came to laying on the floor of the restaurant with EMTs staring at me

I was actually relieved when I was diagnosed with a kidney stone (whew - thought it was going to be something extra serious) - and learned they are fairly common

unfortunately it was 8+ weeks until the stone passed … and had two separate bouts with excruciating pain during the last two weeks

I do stay fairly hydrated on the bike - sorta / kinda - typically around 22 ounces per 10 miles - but fall short other times … I’m carrying too much weight (gentle way of stating I’m fat ) - lost 30 or so lbs in the past two years - but still sweat profusely and need to increase the water intake

plus - apparently a recent diet / nutrition change could also be a contributing factor …(?) … increase in leafy green vegs / salads, berries, nuts, calcium … I saved the expelled kidney stone so it could be analyzed - but have not submitted it (yet)

Hmm let's see broken bones.
Right tib fib at the ankle. Surgery plate and 11 screws .10 mos. Later 2nd surgery remove plate and 10 screws. Classic boxers break right hand. Broken outer bone in left foot, rolled ankle. 10 ribs right side and collar bone right side.
Honorable Mention, separated right elbow resulting in torn bicept. Dislocated both thumbs in a motorcycle accident.

Cleveland corned beef report.
Damn that looks good! Sometimes seeing stuff like this and the price of houses is almost enough to make me wanna move to the Midwest.

I’m debating about getting a bike friday folding road bike. Going to the bus I will have the room to bring the ritchey, but the issue is the size of the case while walking through the airport. There is no good way to attach it to my bags. My current case doesn’t have wheels but that really wouldn’t solve the problem. Since I ride a 58 there isn’t enough room in the case for me to put all my gear, and my suitcase is already pretty full.

Any of y’all ever ride one?

Another intense pain was the lidocaine shot for my vasectomy. It was mercifully only for about 3 seconds, then all went numb.
Yah, the vasectomy shot is not fun.

Worst pain I ever had was after my hip labrum was repaired in 2016. I have family members who suffered from opioid addiction and decided I wanted a pain management plan that was opioid free. When fixing the labrum they also shaved off a bunch of bone on my femur and pelvis and made micro fractures on the inside of the joint to perform healing. It was awful and the nsaids didn’t do a thing.

House prices are so regional its wild. Two days ago when I first looked at this thread, folks were chatting about interest rates and house prices, and it boggles my mind just how different everyplace is. I have lived in my current house for 7 years, and it has appreciated by maybe 20%. It wouldn't offset what I've spent on improvements, not that it needs to.

All everyone ever hears about NY is how unaffordable it is due to high taxes, and on paper tax rates are a high %. But when your property isn't assessed that high, I would wager that I pay less for mortgage + taxes + insurance then most people pay for a studio apartment.

Different part of NY, but similar here. We’re up 20-25% since 2020. For what we have house wise, our taxes are pretty low- 4500 annually.

Where they get us is state income tax. But in 2 years the SALT limit expires which will be nice

I spent about 10 mins riding one on a trade show floor and it was awesome. Hard for me to say how one would ride on real roads though
