Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh brother. I have a patient with diabetes who took medicine A a couple years ago and did GREAT. He did so well we stopped it. Now his sugars are up again and he should go back on medicine A. Insurance says they won't cover it unless he tries medicine B AND medicine C.

He tried both medicines B and medicines C, and had terrible side effects.

So we asked insurance to cover medicine A.

They wrote back and said they WILL NOT cover medicine A. Why? Because they say he must try medicine B or medicine C first.

I have a yearly argument with my insurance company about Nexium.
Someone, who has never examined or diagnosed me, wants to be prescribing my medication, base on cost, only in America.

So, is the solution just time on the phone? A brick wrapped in this poor guy's chart, tossed through the Medical Director's window?

It's a pain. I have to appeal their decision and do a peer-to-peer discussion.

My doctor's nurse has the forms prefilled in a file and sends them out every year. She is not one to trifle with!

If you wear a normal (not wide) shoe, now is the time to try some Lake shoes. CC has them at a screaming price.

Before Social Security went paperless, they popped a questionaire in the mail once per year, just to see if their charge still lives there. In my, and all expats' cases, they duly put my address on the envelope, put a US stamp on it and sent it out. Every year, they would cut me off for non-return of the form. Every year, I called the embassy in Mexico City and they straightened it out. And around and around she goes; where she stops nobody knows.

Bringing this site back to cycling, my eTap rear derailleur snapped the inner jockey wheel side plate of today’s 50 miler. Carbon asplosion.

The good part is that I was able to get home without much trouble. I had to stop 3x to put the chain back on the lower jockey wheel after it jumped off, assume it would jump off when the chain went slack. Alignment is perfect.

The semi-good news is that the part is available.

The bad news is it won’t be here for three days.

I finally installed the carbon bars on my Allez. Internal cable routing. Tres elegant.
