Dahon Tire/Wheel width for 20" tires / puncture resistance

I'm trying to narrow down which Dahon to buy. The Speed D8, I8, Vitesse are all front runners. I'm a noob. Here comes the dumb question - are there 2" tires that can be mounted to the 1.75" wheels?

Is there a decent puncture resistant tire someone would recommend? I keep seeing Big Apple tires being mentioned, but I don't know why they seem so popular, what gives?

Thanks in advance.

There is an acceptable mapping from rim to tire widths. In short, wider rims are used for wider tires. Generally, a rim that is designed for 1.75" tires -- or a bike that already has 1.75" tires -- will be fine with 2" wide tires.

Big Apples are a quality tire with lots of air volume for a more cushy ride and decent performance characteristics. It's relatively durable in my experience too.

Thank you, invisiblehand. I've been agonizing over which model to buy. I think I'm going to go for the Speed P8 (instead of the MU P8), and follow up with getting Big Apple 2"ers - however, if anyone would like to chime in, I'm all ears!

If 1.75" refers to the width of the rim, that's a very wide rim indeed. My folders have 15mm or 0.59"-width rims. Are you sure your rim is 1.75" in width?

due to it's use in bmx builds, 1.75" is the most common 406 rim width designation, bro.

Rims width is normally an inside measurement (where the tire sits) .. 1.75" refers to the tire width .. a very wide BMX rim would be in the 30mm area, not (1.75" -> 44.5mm) .. but in answer to the OP, a 2.0 Big Apple will fit either Dahon he's looking at..

I used to have a pair of Schwalbe Marathon Plus but it wasn't actually all-rounder because you cannot use it at any surface. So, now I have the inexpensive Continental Tour RIDE (20x1.75) combined with a pair of Michelin Protek Max tubes, that is my perfect blend. Best.
