3 week slogfest. not everyone is best suited for a weeklong slogfest. not everyone is best suited for a one-day classic. maybe i'm in the minority but i'd rather have more racing than less.
the fears that the toc would siphon away too many great riders from the giro or not be worthy/competitive are largely dismissed. there are enough riders and enough teams
that the toc becomes another training tool. say what you want about the credibility of the toc but apart from the stage finishing up at the palm springs tram in 95+ degree heat a few years ago,
i haven't heard much negative press on the race. otoh, it seems the giro has questionably/dangerously designed final 5k/sprint finishes nearly every year that the riders understandably
complain about.
do you miss the tour of ireland? i would. if the toc folds, i'll miss it.

so was planning on hitting stage six-the gmr/grr/mt baldy stage. current forecast is showing rain in those mountains but relatively warm/sunny in the
la basin below. got the day off but i'm not down for standing around for 3-5 hours in the cold/rain. don't mind riding in the rain so if the forecast holds,
will prob just try to time it so i catch the peleton's first pass then descend into the sunshine.

Going to Stages 1 and 2 starts. May not be the Giro, but it's close to home and in English. : )
Skipped the group ride yesterday and cruised the MUP; encountered 6 teams and two Bora guys on their own, passing me a few minutes apart, at ~28 mph into a mild headwind. Oh, to be that young, thin, and fast!

McCabe came a very close second to Peter, then finished a minute and five back from Tejay on Monday!! So a very strong Continental Rider.
I very much enjoyed watching the EF train barrel up the course in the second half. Tejay managed to crack Moscon but didn't beat Asgreen. I watched on NBCSN and had to laugh as the camera was right on Asgreen immediately once he stopped. "F-in H-ll that was hard!" he blurted out
I'm guessing he burnt up the legs pretty bad for that win!
And once again a mechanical spoils EFs chance for Sprint bonus time!!!

Do they have a jersey for Worst Descender? If so, today's stage winner, Cavagna, would be leading! I've descended Mt. Hamilton and am pretty sure I did a better job, even with uphill car traffic! Holy Moses that was awful! But somehow...effective.

That was a fun day. Visited the Specialized museum in the morning (pics to follow). Then hung around the Finish the rest of the day. First time at a race finish and I must say I'll be doing more finish or starts instead of on-course like last year. Tons of freebies too. lol

On the day of the Mens stage six-the gmr/grr/mt baldy stage... is the 2nd stage of the Womens race... they start around 10am.. ends around 12. I wanted to pedal the Mt Baldy Road to the resort to spectate the Mens finish around 3pm.
im thinking the Mt Baldy road will be closed to traffic and bikes pretty early.... not sure how/where i should spectate since the Womens race is also in the morning ??

So far for my money, this race has been a snooze fest. Yesterday was just awful to watch. Everyone just sitting back taking it easy with the exception of 2 riders who wanted to ride. Kudos to them.
This ride will never make the cut over the long haul. The Euro's simply use this as a training ride to prepare for the Tour if they even come. The weather is just to nice, roads to wide, and atmosphere is to layed back.
I feel that many of the really good riders simply use this as a training vacation. Not to mention that for almost all of the teams, it is a long haul and expense to Cali for this ride. I get the Tour Down Under since it is the first big ride of the year, but Amgen is just not going to really make it due to the nature of the ride itself.
Yesterday was a good example of all the GC's guys just out for a ride. Mt Baldy seems like the only day anyone will really press the issue, so I guess 2 days out of 7 is the best we are going to get.
