I'm going to stay closer to home on the 4th, just something in the AM and away from the beach

The Montana/Idaho tour is in the books. Several days of on and off showers while on the road and in camp, but nothing horrible. At least it was not hot like in 2017. Maybe two of the 14 days got up into the low 80s. Morning lows ranged from the 40s to 50s. Last day dipped to 42 as I was rolling out. Saw a black bear, elk (including a young bull with antlers), ospreys, bald eagles, some sort of partridge looking thing and countless deer. Hoping to have a Flikr album ready by the weekend.

Great picture, yes do tell about the tour, interested in your route. We just bought a home in the Boise area. There's a lot of ID to the north I've never explored.

Looking at my data, June was my highest mileage month ever at 771.53. Sounds good but it’s partly a calendar anomaly, June 2019 had 5 full weekends. Not that common for a 30 day month.

Happy 4th of July! Bbq and pool day for us. We went to the empty beach yesterday to avoid the millions today

Fun day on GMR. My first time riding up to the ski lifts, and I made it. Due to time constraints needing to get back for a family July 4 party we came back via Mt Baldy Rd and Baseline. Riding my tubeless bike today thankfully. Something punctured my rear tire on Baseline, I felt sealant spray my ankles and the guy behind me told my my tire was spraying liquid. By the time I stopped and looked at the tire, it was sealed up and lost so little air I was able to just keep rolling. Thanks Orange Seal! @calamarichris kindly took this photo of me and a couple of my clubmates, I’m in the middle.

This is the route, although I did make some changes south of Whitefish. A heavy storm moved through the area in the morning. Some of the roads I had planned to ride that day are dirt/sandy. Didn't want to get the bike junked up so I took highways between Whitefish and mile 502.3 of the planned route.

I did most of this route two years ago, so I knew what to expect most of the time. Days 2 and 3 were unfamiliar mileage and included the 16 mile, 3,200' climb up unpaved Gold Pass to the ID border. The surface was rougher than I had expected, making it a real challenge. Despite some showers and a brief period of hail, the paved descent in ID was absolutely gorgeous. The Route of the Hiawatha Trail, with all its tunnels, was also neat, although I was one of only a few nuts going W to E, which is the uphill direction. I also planned the days so I could ride up to and spend some time at the Ross Creek Cedars area, which boasts trees as old as 500 years. On Days 1 and 2 I got to ride two different sections of I-90 westbound that were closed to motor vehicles in preparation for upcoming bridge work. Nothing like have an entire interstate to yourself. Kootenai Falls, where part of "The Revenant" was filmed, was another highlight.
Total of 3 days of rain while I was on the road. A few other days there were brief showers while in camp. Some mornings were downright chilly, in the 40s and 50s. Better than the hot days I had back in 2017. I did end up with two unplanned indoor stays. The first was in Thomspon Falls. It was cold and rainy and the nearby state park has no where to cook under cover, so I got a motel. Ended up in a cabin at the campground just west of Troy, MT because an organized ride had taken all the tent sites. Camping was at state parks, Forest Service campgrounds and one city park.
Made a slide show and posted it to YouTube:

I rode up Turnbull Canyon for first time today. I had heard of it but didn’t know where exactly. A friend put route together and now I know. Nice little climb not terribly far from my house!

I rode Turnbull a few years ago and enjoyed it. Tried to schedule another club ride out there in Feb, but El Niño had other ideas.
I finally got a ride in today without a puncture. Punctured on Thursday returning from Mt Baldy (tubeless bike, sealant handled it), picked up a screw in my back tire yesterday in Irvine (tubed bike), ruining an older GP4000 and tube.

A few weeks ago I replaced battery in power meter on Emonda. After ride, I took bike to shop for tune up. Yesterday was first ride since. Power meter wasn’t being seen by Garmin. So I figured maybe I got a bad battery. Went and got another battery. When I opened battery compartment there seemed to be rust on battery. Hmmmm. Put new battery in and Garmin sees it but Calibration fails and it’s not registering power or cadence. I checked Stages App and it sees it but won’t fully connect and allow calibration. Opened a trouble ticket. I wonder how that battery got in such bad shape in so short a time.
So today I rode Domane. Put the SPD-SL pedals on. Last ride on Domane was last September on the ride with the gang here prior to shoulder surgery. Need to ride Domane more.

I have jury duty this week but so far I haven’t had to go. I check in again tomorrow night. Crossing fingers they don’t need me since they assigned me court in downtown LA and metro blue line is not running all the way to LA right now to save me driving.

I had the same, first week of June. OC courts go by group number, groups up to 5009 had to go in that week, I was in #5010. Yeah! Or as Maxwell Smart would say - “missed it by that much!”

My original summons was February. I had to reschedule due to work to April. Then saw blue line south portion was not running and so pushed it back one more time only to have the northern half shut down for improvements.

So far have dodged jury duty all week. Just need to check in tonight about tomorrow. Crossing fingers.
I ordered some LG Mondo Evo Bibs from Competitive Cyclist. They arrived yesterday. I have a question and I googled but found no answer. There is a pocket on bib back mid shoulder blade. I'm guessing a PRO would but a race radio unit there. It's too narrow for a current sized phone. What is possible purpose for this pocket? Or is it just a holdover from a design to put race radio in?

finally got in my first ride of the month, work and family life has not been kind on me. Felt like poopoo on the lil climb in the heat. Overall was about 6mins slower today on the lunch loop.

First my brain says, "Well, we made it home alive at least." Then the other part of my brain, that continually and rightfully argues with the first part says, "But did we though?"
The real key to 109ºF is simple: never stop moving. Humidity ranging into the low teens also helps. Still killed two full 25oz bottles in the last 40 minutes.

We’re riding down the coast to Oceanside, train back. Best way to avoid the worst of the heat. Though it will be bloody warm for my 4 mile slightly uphill ride home from the Irvine train station.

Got out for a Metric today. Decided to ride to Ruby’s shake shack on PCH from my house. Knew it was going to get warm today so managed to get rolling “early” for me
Enjoyed my Creamsicle shake!
