Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

HH is Oct. 4th. I might be able to swing that. I need the mileage.

I've been talked into doing another double century to Myrtle beach on the 24th. I haven't ridden a single 100 miler all year. I'm doomed.

I have ridden Bridge to Bridge a handful of times but nice since he early 90s. The last two miles are a kick - 1000 feet of gain. Otherwise, I would say that rides like the Assault on Mount Mitchell are more challenging.

It's a bit tougher now. The route has changed. The first 40 miles are no longer all rolling... there's a few "kickers" on the first 40 now. The last 40 miles now will feel even harder... especially that epic climb up Grandfather Mountain.

Did anyone here ride sunday? I was registered but after watching the weather I went back to bed. This ride is tough enough without riding in a monsoon for six hours . Give us a report on the conditions if you rode it.

The posted results show only 274 riders to the top , looks like the turnout was light. 25 made it to the medows . Maybe next year will be more favorable .
