Thanks a million. That'll be cutting it close, but I'll go ahead and buy the bike if the CL seller ever replies.

I hear you, brother. I also have a 62cm '87 Ironman Master frameset that pushes the limits of my 33.5" inseam. I think I'll swap the parts off the 64cm '88 onto it and see if I can ride it comfortably. If so, I'll have to do something about the hideous flat black rattle can paint job someone put over the original yellow and white.

Here's a repost about the 87 small wheeled Ironman.
"One thing should be mentioned it also came with a 700c front wheel the next size up. I'd like to get the only other model 48cm with 700c front wheel for my wife too.
The regular Ironman came in 48cm also but with a longer top tube. I actually had a 46cm with the 24 inch front wheel. But I sold right away. Those front wheels were difficult to source. Reportedly you could get them the same place you would get wheels for wheelchairs".

I posted this a few pages back, great minds think alike (of course that has nothing to do with you and I).
Back when I posted it, it was 75 bucks on the bay. Everyone said it was rust but I don't know, is this rust? Regardless, for 20 bucks it's gotta be worth it

Yes that is a long steerer neck . If I were going to do a paint job on that bike I would paint it a color of red that is hard to describe . It's not a dark red and not light it almost has a glow to it but not day-glo anyone know that color ? Also I would put on a set of chrome forks with a sloping crown like this https://www.google.com/search?q=pict...a7U9HmNZG7ZuM: DA 7401 gruppo and sew ups

Re: my question about what color to re-paint my Black Dog, with black being out of the options (black lettered decals).

Orange appears to be the winner, but flat black is a solid second.

I think there was an orange centurion with the same characteristics that your describing. @jetboy theorized it was the orange painted over the chrome. Sounds feasible and it looked very sharp. Wait, here it is, owned by BF member Stevensb. Wish I knew how to post the thread link.

you pay a price for that color though- its super thin paint over that chrome. on the plus side, with the paint so shiny already, showing some chrome though the scratches is not such a terrible thing.

56cm black '89 frame. Changed from what you see here.
Now has: DA 7700 STI/FD/RD. Bontrager Race Lite wheels (black). Tektro R741 Quartz calipers (black). Cannondale black seatpost. Same FSA carbon crankset. Same stem, bars, wrap, cassette.

I rarely ride it, and like I said, it's got some very light rust where the lugs rub stuff, and on the top of the cable guides. I'll either sell it or part it out, or tear it down, use the opportunity to have it powder-coated and then have the fun of building it back up. Flat black with the black-themed Ironman decals would be neat, as well as orange, as others have noted. Maybe then I could get my Molteni jersey and bibs out of the closet....

Almost as nice as the Facet you did... But I am partial to Facets, have about 2000miles on mine since the 105 upgrades... Thanks again for the info... Now has 105 brakes and pedals on it also.

My first Centurion (not a IM) I painted satin white , I built it up with Sante parts . All that satin white looked good . I vote satin black for the Black Dog .

It raises some curiosity that is for sure... No one ever believes the frame was from 1986.

Me being a triple guy, my IM rolls with 52/42/30 12 14 16 18 21 24 28 gearing. The 42-12 sits between the 52-14/16 and gets a lot of use if it is super windy or the terrain is iffy.
Lots of choices/options.
