Really nothing sinister in the slightest, just rotten luck! Leaving my first drop for the day riding zipping up my jersey as I was going along (on what might I add was a beautifully sunny and still day), a gust of wind came out of nowhere and swept the bike from underneath me. Handlebars twisted round and caught the door of a parked car - The bike stopped dead but I kept going.

Better than the bike - I came to in the middle of the road and my whole right arm felt pretty much immobile, the only thing running through my head was "awwwwww ****". Thankfully though it seemed to right itself in a couple of hours and I walked away just some nasty bruising and scrapes down my side. My forks and helmet seemed to take the brunt of the impact.

My R1 and I went hang gliding off a mountain cliff in San Diego....without a glider. Came to in a beautiful meadow surrounded by curious lamas. Took about 10 minutes before I could remember what day it was. I was wearing good gear so I didn't have a scratch or bruise. Bike was well hammered though. Some teenagers that lived on the ranch rode up on their quads and asked if I needed help. They helped me load the bike into their pickup truck and drove me home (60 miles) for $100.00 and a tank of gas. A tow truck would have been a fortune so I was pretty happy about that.

I've never been able to remember braking, missing the corner, or the crash though. Just accelerating towards it.

A few days later I broke out the wrenches and the checkbook and I was much less happy.

Damn, a definite 'life flashing before your eyes' moment I bet. I hit the deck right outside a police station, had an officer peel me off the tarmac and dust me off. Turns out he lives not 20 minutes from I where I grew up and was an avid mountain biker. About the only time I'd be happy to get a ride home in a police van!

When I was 15 years old, I went for a bike ride one Saturday afternoon and returned home completely disoriented. I didn't know what day it was, where I'd been, or anything else. Since then, I've pieced together what probably happened. I think I crashed and hit my head on the ground (or a curb) just around the corner.

Somehow, I found my way back home. My dad was working in the driveway, and I talked to him briefly as I passed. I then went downstairs, where my little brother noticed that I was acting very strangely. He alerted Dad, who took me to the hospital, and I was found to have a pretty serious concussion. For most of that day, I was utterly confused, and my family got quite a kick out of my silly questions, endlessly repeated. Stupid stuff like, "Grandma died, right?" and "Did a new family move in next door?" Both of these were old news. And there were many other things I was trying to sort out. My brain got so jolted, it took a while to get itself reconfigured.

The most troubling moment was when the doctor came into the room and started his assessment. He asked me my name, and I came up with it after just a little concentration. Then he asked me if I knew the date, and I had no idea. I couldn't even come up with the right year, let alone month and day. "Can you tell me what happened?" was next, and I was likewise baffled.

Over a period of weeks and months, the events of that day came back into my memory, but there were 8 or 10 hours that went completely blank for a while.

My LBS mechanic who had one of these ran the same combo. Trail Boss > Trailblazer. Might go with that.

yup thatl be good. the trailboss is a great tire, its limitations only show when you start to get real crazy. the trailblazer is like a jacked up nano which is a favorite for mixed terrain skinny bikes and xc bikes. thatl be a nice zippy combo

they got me thru my arizona trip with only a single tiny sidewall puncture going 30mph down a scree field of jagged limestone. that wouldve happened to any tire, theyre very burly

also: dont put 50mm rims on it especially if youre riding in rock gardens (rocks will scrape the **** out of your rims). the flotation is cool but the tire profile from a 35-45mm rim makes the bike more playful, handling and traction is more predictable and you can really rail it. plus you still get boatloads of surface area with 2.8-3" tires even on a 20mm rim. and yaknow, lighter is better and all that.

that being said: i have a pair of scraper rims brand new if youre interested, lol.

The Nano is definitely my favorite "mixed terrain skinny bike" tire, so that'll be rad.

Per their website the rear can handle a Trailblazer on a Blunt, but nothing more.

I'm probably going to scoop the XT > Blunt set from Velomine at $229.
