70 mph Low Racer Bike

I can pedal my low racer bike 32 mph, these 2 pulse jet engines produce 40 lbs of thrust on gas they have no trouble pushing the bike. I won't ride it faster than 45 mph without a face shield and I can't find anyone that will ride it faster than 70. I am not sure bike tires are designed to go this fast. Fuel is about 3 minutes of gasoline. The tiny propane tank is fuel pressure only. I pedal the bike to help get it up to about 35 mph then let the jet engines do the rest. This was a fun project to build. LOL.

Sheesh. How do you control the thrust and/or turn it off?

I'd be less concerned about the tires and more concerned about the ability to slow down or stop quickly when needed. Bike brakes are not really up to the task of providing quick stops from those kinds of speeds, especially considering the added weight of the rocket trailer.

I think there's a lot I'd be concerned with.

It's cool, in a Darwin award kinda way.

Don't suppose those rocket-propelled speeds were attained on public roadways?

For someone whose username is "Crash2Much" I think not taking it to 70 MPH shows an enormous amount of restraint.

Hmmmm...last guy I met who had a jet powered bicycle loved the thing. Then he got killed at work test running a rocket engine. He used to take his to work and ride it on a closed runway.....go for it, why let somebody else have all the fun? Scaled Composites accident - Mojave Desert, California | Knights Arrow

That's what I think too. Did you notice in the photos the rider wasn't even wearing a helmet?

Well, the photos are in a driveway, with the rider wearing street clothes, too, so that doesn't appear to be from an actual ride.

Jets are pretty cool, I'll admit. Not very practical, but OTOH, this is (I hope) just an exercise to build it. Some of us who have been around long enough remember Vision putting a jet on one of their bikes. The videos are still around somewhere.

Uh,
No off switch?

It needs brakes on the trailer, but they would HAVE to be finely balanced as any twist would throw the thrust off the center line if rockets still firing... If they pulse JETS, then I guess you could cut the current to the spark plug, or fuel pump (if not gravity fed)...

A 3 miles section of the old abandon 2 lane highway 10 miles from town is a great place to ride this bike. Pulse jet engines make bike pick up speed about like coasting down a hill. The brakes have no problem stopping the bike it is like brakes on an airplane and the fuel runs out in about 3 minutes. That is my son setting on the bike in the driveway just for the purpose of taking pictures. The trailer, engines, fuel all weigh about 20 lbs. I have a motor cycle helmet with face shield, racing suit, elbow pads, gloves. Yes this is just a fun project to build just because I can, not very practical but FUN, FUN, FUN.

If it were throttleable (or at least able to turn on/off), I'd be willing to make a run on that.

The tires would probably be fine to at least 100 mph. You don't need z-rated tires (170+) unless you really think it will get up to over those speeds. I agree that the next step should a streamliner with that set up.

Take it to the Salt Flats in UT. I'll be your test rider.

I race motorcycles, so going fast on two wheels is something I really enjoy. I've seen 165 mph indicated on mine.
