I'm about to buy some new tires and fenders for my Cross Check. I'm going to buy Marathon Supremes @ either 700x35 or 700x40, depending on my fender question. I'm also going to purchase SKS PXX (P45 or P50, to be determined) fenders.

I've read that the Supremes run a little bit smaller than what they are actually listed as (ie; 35's measuring more like 32's). Has anyone tried or know if the 700x40 Supreme runs a little smaller width wise as well?

Also for all you Cross Check owners, what is the widest fender/tire or just tire you have fit on your frame/fork?

I'd like to buy as big of fenders as possible to accommodate most possible tires in the future. Thanks for any input you guys may have.

Cannot speak to tire & fender.
However I've run a 47 mm regular schwalbe marathon on my crosscheck with no fenders.

I've got a 700x35 Marathon Supreme and it doesn't look small to me. It's definately bigger than a 700x35 Vittoria

I run 700x35 Marathon Supreme's and they measure exactly 35mm.

You guys running a 35mm tire, you guys have plenty of space to go wider I'm assuming?

I know somebody who told me he has run nominal 50mm tires on his CC, but I doubt if he measured them to verify actual width. I have 45mm fenders on one right now - I think those are probably the widest fenders you will find in for 700c wheels. That would allow 35-37mm tires which should be plenty wide enough for touring.

I had 40mm supremes, they calipered to 40.0 mm. I use 45mm PB Cascadias.

I dialed back to 32mm tires though, 40 just too much for me to push fixed-gear.

I've run the Panaracers mentioned above. I have a 2008 model year frame and they are a very tight fit. If I get the slightest bit out of true they start to rub (I'm not running them right now because I need to my rims trued). I don't know for sure, but I have heard of slicks going wider than 45 from a couple of different people.

The tire worked well on logging trails and cow paths, plus broken up urban streets.
Perhaps the crosscheck with those tires became a light weight 29er

I have run 45mm tires on the rear of my Cross Check and a 1.9" on the front. 45mm on the front would still have fender clearance. 45mm on the rear would fit fenders, but probably need to be aired down to remove the wheel.

I would recomend the Shwalbe Marathon Extremes if you need that big of a tire. I just put one on the rear of my Singlecross and like it so far, I plan on ordering a few more.
