Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon Fork Fender Mount Hack

I recently installed a carbon fork with fender eyelets on the dropouts so I could use Planet Bike Full Hybrid fenders on it.

Here's the fork: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Road-Bike-3K-Carbon-Fork-1-1-8-700C-520g-209mm/252158452338?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

But I had a problem mounting the upper tab to the brake bolt. I found out it is easy to tap one of these recessed Allen bolts with an M6x1 tap. A bit of surgery with a die grinder and a cutoff wheel was necessary to enable the top fender tap to fit inside the scalloped area at the top of the fork. Secured with an M6x1 bolt and washer, along with a few drops of epoxy, makes for a secure mount.

Very cool.

I hope you didn't tap the end that accepts the allen key.

Sure did. The threads do not interfere with the Allen socket.

Neat! Probably less hassle in the long run than mounting it inside the crown or behind the brake, if that's even possible.

For other folks in the same situation, you can simply buy a recessed brake nut that accepts a fender bolt:

Correct. But I had the tap in my toolbox. Any good hardware store will have this tap in stock.
