Bike Water Bottles that don't taste like garden hose
I bought a couple of bike water bottles from REI and they all taste like garden hose. Does anyone recommend anything that doesn't throw off the taste of plain water?

As posted earlier there is a pretty good (but WAY to long) thread regarding this here:
Method for removing plastic taste from water bottle
The biggest take away from THAT thread was, glass and stainless steel. HOWEVER, in the thread, I found out that using denture cleaning tablets were an effective and economical means of removing odors and disinfecting! So, if you have a bottle that tastes like plastic, and you're not wanting to go glass or metal, try boiling it in then soaking it with denture tabs over night!

Especially that first warm bit of water that had been sitting in the hose...

Firstly how do you know what a garden hose tastes like? If you are desperate for food, I can send you some dried beans and rice! It is a much better meal than garden hoses.
Secondly Camelbak Podium Ice or Chill and good clean water (maybe like from a home filtration system like those sold by Brita or Pür or that comes out fancy fridges)

I thought this was settled. Camelbak bottles don't have any of that nasty plastic taste, even if the water sits in them for a few days.
I used to hate that plastic taste from my old bike store bottles.

Us kids back in the 60's drank all of our water out of a garden hose when we were outside, which was 100% of the time unless we were eating and sleeping. I still do. What's the big deal? There are 100's of millions of people all over the world that would give anything for the water we take for granted.
When I was a kid "bottled water" was when we filled our canteen up from the garden hose!

Rinse them with hot water and baking soda ten times , then let them lie on their sides with the lids off, to air out, for 36 months.

I just bought a sports bottle at dicks for really cheap (buy one get one free or something), I don't even know the brand. But it's pretty good and doesn't taste like a garden hose, stays in also.

This: Purist Technology - Specialized Water Bottles
I've had one for over a year, no bottle taste, just pure water. The only bottle I use.

Stop filling them from the garden hose?
Time is my cure. New plastic smells plasticky, no shock. Sit it out in the sun a bit, go for a few rides. Once the bottle is worn in and has some miles on it, water will just taste like water.

PETE does seem to work fairly well from a flavor perspective, but I'm not sticking them in frame holders, and rarely try to drink while riding - have not found a good squeeze top, only marginal ones (and only on flimsier bottles that don't hold up to extended use).
(Where I do feel the waste is buying gallons on extended rides to refill everything, then crushing the jug and stuffing it in the 7-11 trash can. But there's no other way to get water along my rail trail)
