Cross Check rear hub spacing
Based on the Surly website the Cross Check has 135mm rear hub spacing. Does this mean that I can run regular mountain rear hubs? Can you use 130mm rear hubs in this frame as well?
Bikes having two different rear hub spacings is making my prospective wheel buying a PITA with seeing which bikes have which spacing and wheels with different hubs..... It's getting confusing, haha
Thanks

In a lot of ways, Surly frames seem like they're designed by committee. On the other hand, they are very versatile. Sheldon Brown's "Stupid Karate Monkey Tricks" build was the logical extension of their design philosophy.
I've got a Cross Check frame on order. I love the frame, but I wish I could have gotten it without the down tube bosses.

It's not /that/ out of the ordinary. My Rob Roy has the same rear spacing. It actually makes a little more sense on the Cross Check, since you can run gears on it. There are not a lot of options in the 135mm track/flip flop hub area.

Thank you very much. This is the exact same response I got from Surly customer service people. Literally, exactly what they said, haha. Well I guess this is just about as good as it gets then in terms of wheel selections go! I still don't know why Surly has posted on their website that the rear spacing is 135mm though?
To answer another question, no, there are not a lot of other bikes with 135mm spacing in the back (ie; Salsa La Cruz) but just trying to figure out which ones do and don't and blah blah. Its okay, bike shopping is so much fun
Thanks for the answers folks!

I think you were looking at how they spec out their Cross-check complete bike.
