My wife and I scoured the expo searching for new developments in e-technology, and were pretty disappointed. Most of the OEM's had "me too" bikes except for the few employing the Fazua system, a German development that is 10 or so pounds and modular. The Fauza has a motor/battery/controller unit that weighs about seven pounds and can be removed, then replaced with a cover, and the bike ridden without e-power. The remnant is a bottom bracket assembly that adds a couple of pounds to the bike. Hi-Power Cycles were present with their too expensive (IMO) creations (except for a $4,000+ hardtail), Cake had a beautiful, but $13,000 moped/motorcycle (depending on regulations) and M1Sportechnik had their expensive e-candy. The only other product of interest was a shaft-drive e-bike.

thanks for the report. I like looking at expensive bikes even though I'm not ever likely to be in the market. The removable parts bike sounds interesting. Did you take any pictures?

No, most of the new products (especially the Fauza) should have lots of pictures and details on their web sites. I read a review of the Fazua unit on a Lapierre MTB recently, and it sounds like a nice, lightweight, low power e-solution. It should be even better for road bikes.

Thanks, corrected it. I had a brochure from them, but it didn't offer much information. Supposedly 50 - 60 nm of torque (seems high for such a small motor), 6.5 - 7.0 ponds for the removable motor/controller/battery unit, and 2.5 pounds for the special bottom bracket that stays on the bike when the unit is removed. This is just what I've been looking for, modest assistance with minimal weight penalty. However, a few reports indicate there are challenges to be solved before the system is perfected.
