General advice on electric motors.
I've been reading through the threads and can't see the info I'm looking for.
Are people using AC or DC motors ?
How many Watts or HP ?
One of the motors I've been considering is this:

It equates to about 9hp, should I go with this or look for a DC alternative ?
What motors are people using ?
I'm in the UK and really don't know where to look for a suitable motor.
I'm interested in all opinions and advice

It depends, if you`ve got a driving licence or not. Here in Austria and Germany you may drive a 250 Watt bicycle without a licence plate.
You ride 25-40 kms an hour. Some years before, they developed in the Technical University in Biel, Switzerland, a 1000 Watt bicycle,
a sportive girl rode nearly 100 kms an hour. It`s possible to buy stronger motors, but, as I told before, you`d need a driving licence
and a licence plate.

AFAIK the limitation here is whether or not it can exceed 15mph.
Whether there is a power or weight limit I don't know.

Almost all E-Assist motors are brushless DC. A few are still brushed DC.
That motor you are looking at is a hobby brushless DC motor requiring a sensorless brushless speed control. It is capable of over an order of magnitude more power than would be legal for an e-bike in most locations...
