Should I put a carbon bike on a trainer?
I know this forum is about getting out and "doing it" but realistily, if I want to even pretend that I am attempting to keep with the program this winter I will ahve to use the trainer too. I was reading about another gentleman who discovered a wonderful, cheep , aluminum roadbike that he very much enjoyed riding. It was a happy accident thought becasue he initially bought it to chain to a trainer so that he didn't have to put his CF bike on it. That got me thinking hat leaving my Roubaix on the trainer all winter might be, somehow, BAD for it and I don't want that because it's unlikely that I'll be able to afford a bike that nice again if something hung were to happen to it. What is your opinion on this? WHat bikes do you guys keep in the Pain Cave at home?

It won't hurt anything. My craptastic old Nashbar trainer chews up the QR and nut of my skewer, but I just got a super cheap external cam skewer and don't worry about it.
Also, make sure you wipe down everything when you're done. Even with the strongest fan, you're going to drip sweat all over it. Check your seat post and rear brake cable stop occasionally. Doesn't hurt to give those places a squirt of WD-40 every now and then.

Trainer use often voids the warranty.

1. I don't use my imagination about trainer damage. I use Sportcrafter Overdrive rollers.
2. A manufacturer will likely not know but if you damage your bike in a trainer and try to claim it as non-trainer damage against a warranty which specifically prohibits trainer use then you commit fraud. Yeah, chances of getting caught are slim to none but it isn't something I want to have to bring to the confessional. To each his own.
3. It is common knowledge that some manufacturers don't warranty carbon frames against trainer use. Canyon, Specialized and Trek are among them.

Shouldn't be a problem. Thousands of people ride trainers with Carbon bikes and reports of problem are rare to nonexistent.

This is the warranty that covers my Tarmac. https://media.specialized.com/suppor...0009968_r3.pdf
I am not seeing any exclusion for trainer use.

I bought both my carbon Specialized bikes used so I don't have any warranty. I do mostly threshold and below efforts on the trainer so can't see how it could be a problem.
