What is this part called?
I need help identifying a tiny part on my bike as it has fallen off so I need to replace it. It's a tiny nipple that is crimped on to the bare ends of the gear cables.
What is that blue part called?

It's called a cable crimp, or end cap.

I don't even use those.
I just use an inch or two of heatshrink tubing on the ends of cables.

Cheez! The local bike shop will probably give you a handful of cable crimps for a quarter. Why all this extra work with solder, glue, etc.?

I do that to the cable, before I cut it.. it's a bit tricky with stainless steel cables..
plain Zn Treated steel easier .. then I pull it back out and coat the wire with grease..
before calling it done..
Soldered end makes pulling regreasing and putting it back in.
for maintenance.. easier, also ..

It's a cheap blend if it doesn't stick OR it hasn't been degreased/fluxed. It isn't worth going through that kind of trouble, tbh. In almost any case where removing the cable end would be necessary, you might as well replace the cable if it's too short to re-clamp.

And when you need to pull the cables, the ends aren't all bent up.

While I do agree, it does serve more then just for being repurposed. Preventing the fray lessens the likelihood it'll prick the fingers/leg should it come unwantedly contacted with or to address an adjustment.
