Great finds in 2019
I had some great finds in 2019, but the one that will be a keeper is the Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra that I rode in Gaiole this year. Mostly D/A 7400. Paint and appearance is far from perfect, but it rides great and the fit is perfect.

Look for Peter Mooney on FB and shoot a message with the serial number--he can date the bike for ya (that's how I found out mine was an '85)

At least two of you will recognize this frame set (fork is included). I have a bucket list like list of Italian manufacturers I would like to have in my stable. One was a De Rosa. The challenge for me is to find one in my size, 59/60 at a price I could swallow. It isn't much for some, but I have been looking for a time and am happy that this nearly singular significant purchase last year was a De Rosa Professional.

No I don't have all the parts which will make this bike expensive but less than a full bike purchase might be. I was thinking 9 speed but found a wheel set of Record hubs with 10 V block at a good price since it is tubular rimmed

This amazing “find” of 2019 is not so much of a vintage find but more 2000’s era retro serendipitous fit experiment:
Very nice climbing super compact Veritas size 54 titanium frame set up with a great seatpost, stem and handlebars all Ritchey carbon fiber. My used Dura Ace 7800 crank has some shoe rub. I was thinking of applying some helicopter tape or a Crankskin to it to block my heels. Apparently I have my cleats set up turning inward slightly. This complete bike with both the standard and sidewinder Elite Ciussi aluminum bottle cages (but sans Scicon seatpack) and Dura Ace PD-91000 pedals and the carbon railed Selle Italia Turbomatic Team saddle weighs less than #18.5.
Probably too new for classic & vintage consideration I guess. The Tom Ritchey Seatpost, with the maximum exposure on this borderline too small frame has great comfort over bumps thanks the “Flexlogic” carbon layup and the shock deadening elastomers under the Turbomatic saddle rails.

Amazing = AD Vent Noir frameset in great shape and perfect size.
Potentially amazing = AD Michelle mixte, if the wife will ride.
Jury is out, but not amazing = Frejus w/ short top tube, needs to be repurposed, NOT a drop bar roadie for me.

I have the same Italian (well maybe not exactly the same) bucket list and I also found my De Rosa in the last month of the year. Merry Christmas to me!

My find is a little different. I discovered a non-profit in Dayton, Ohio, that accepts donations of bikes and parts (any condition) and refurbishes them. 'Bicycles For All'. Anyone under 18 (with a parent/guardian) can get a free kids' bike. The larger bikes have been safety checked and sell for some reasonable prices. I volunteer there one or two nights a weeks doing minor repairs, or stripping good parts from the rougher donations. I also bought a teal Specialized Hardrock for $75 from there.

On the way home from Eroica last April, I picked up a '61 Legnano Gran Premio for $50 from a nice BF member, who just wanted it to go to a good home. It's a little small, but I've been playing with seat post and stem, and its almost there. Its great mechanically, though I haven't attempted to service the cottered crank BB, which spins freely, and seems very solid. The little GP has an interesting equipment mix: Olmo headset, Balilla brakes, Gran Turismo RD, NR FD, steel cottered crank with aluminim chain rings. Its a cosmetically challenged patina bike, but a great little ride and a perfect cousin to my '64 Roma Olympiad, which I've ridden 56 years. He also threw in a spare pair of Campy high flange 36h hubs, though the ones on the GP are in great shape.

Head badge cleaned up nice, Olmo head set is wierd, as are Ballila brakes.
The GP came with a Campy Gran Turismo.

Two team bikes. Pics are as purchased. some changes have been made. The first was originally purchased through a Davis Phinney Foundation charity auction. It is a bike he rode in the Coors Classic. The second is a Huffy team bike. I've tried to buy a couple of the Huffy team bikes and was never successful. This one fits well and I made sure to get it. I probably paid a full price, but you can't ride money...

My 1991 M1000 LT
Got it in near mint condition and took it on an unforgetable tour through the rockies spanning 1000km + in less than 12 days over the summer. It was my dream bike and I don't think I'll be doing any more C&V buying for a while. Happy with it

2019 was the year of the cheap or free bike for me. The nicest by far was an 84 Univega Competizione, but it was unremarkable. Iinstead, I was more amazed at my luck findng quality bikes that were repainted and sold as unknowns for very little coin:
- 1973 Motobecane Le Champion
- 1981 Shogun 3000 (educated guess)
- 1992 Specialized Allez Comp

Great eye candy in this thread! I low-balled a "buy it now" Capo Sieger frame on eBay, and the seller met my offer, so I now have two littermate Siegers (see signature). I plan to build one almost OEM, the other a restomod.

I found this Voyageur SP on CL this summer and knew what it was right away (I dont think the seller knew what they had, and I talked them down from an already great deal). The paint on fork was beat up so I stripped it to the chrome. The original components were pretty thrashed so I replaced with a campy racing triple group I had in a box in the parts bin. Replaced the beat up saddle and bar tape with leather, and it rides like a dream.
