1985 Cyclist magazine buying guide
Tried to scan this with the Genius Scan app today - not sure how clear it is. Sounded like a few wanted to see it after my last post about getting some old Cyclist magazines from my dad.

Thanks for the effort, but a bit TMI. I put my first "vintage" bike together in 1985, buying a frame from Michael's Cyclery in Ames, IA, and a "reduced" Super Record group from someplace in Madison, WI or Palo Alto, CA (can't remember) plus a Campy/Mavic G40 wheelset from Wheelsmith if memory serves (it often doesn't). Sourced from one of the cycling magazines' ads, of course.

Yes, definitely a lot of info. I found it more interesting to see what the original specs for components were.

Just the right amount of information! When I was in my 20’s I would pour over the Motorcycle version of charts like these, awesome to see a bike version!!
WHOA!!
In 1985 you could spend $499.00 on a brand new Trek 520...
OR for another 30.00 bucks you could have an ‘85 Miyata 1000!

Thanks for sharing! Lots of useful info.
It is striking that the Colnago Arabesque and Equalatteral Master’s current prices have skyrocketed compared to the other frames

And relatively few “Mountian” (yup, that’s the way it’s spelled) bikes.

I found this fascinating and now want to know more...
Have we ever seen a Shogun 3000? Or a Centurion Prestige?
Why are the Schwinn Tenax racers (Tempo, Super Sport) listed as triathlon bikes?
Why is the Peugeot PSN10 marketed as a triathlon bike but listed here as racing?
Ross seems to have had legitimate offerings. Does this mean I must stop treating the brand like Free Spirit?
Thanks for putting this up!
