I just got a pair of generic winter North Face gloves last year. They are good down to about 30F, which is all we really need here in P-town.

I love classic crocheted gloves. The Nashbar ones that I use do not have the gel palms but they're good enough for me. Hopefully someone knows of some with gel that they can recommend, because all the spandex "technical fabric", which dominate the marketplace, look less good, to me, than good ol' crochet.

The fit was all-around smaller than my Nashbars, even though my hand measures to the low-end of the PB glove's recommended size. I was having a hard time deciding whether or not I could wear them without my circulation being affected. A huge annoyance was that the loop part of the velcro is on the strap. The strap isn't long enough to fit me the way the Nashbar one does, leaving about 3/4" of an inch of exposed hook on the back of my wrist. This apparent size-discrepancy was with their size-M. Maybe their other sizes don't have the problem. Or maybe mine were mis-labeled in the size.

This probably won't fit your gel requirement, but I have settled on following for commuting about 20 miles R/T during warm (over 50 deg. F) weather:

https://www.amazon.com/NEXTOUR-Mount...603277&sr=8-27

Cost is about 1/2 that of name brand gloves. For my application they are the best value I've found

The little links between fingers work better and last longer than I expected. I've only had to sew up a link once. I do have to be careful that it doesn't snag on my bar-end shifters.

Do you have a good bike shop in your town? I'd go and try on gloves. Getting gloves (or just about anything else) to work well around an injury take trial with those gloves. We can recommend all we want but we have no clue what will work best for you.

Edit: Bring your bike. Your hands on the handlebars wearing the gloves you are looking at is what matters.

Found these just now on Rivendell's site. Conventional crochet design, and no heat-inducing black hues. Still not gel (sorry, OP).

https://www.rivbike.com/collections/...er-gloves-xxxl

Even these seem a little ambiguous on the sizing though. That's still better than saying one thing but providing another.

I ended up getting a pair of

Cevapro Cycle Gloves Mountain Road Bike Gloves Half Finger Bicycle Gloves with Anti Slip Shock-Absorbing Gel Pad Cycling Riding Biking Gloves MTB DH Road Bicycling Gloves for Men Women

They`re OK, but probably have half the amount of padding that my old pair of Nashbars had over 40 years ago. And, not as much as my Spenco`s.

Ditto! Besides finding gel gloves you like:
  • You MAY also find out that there are ergonomic flatbar grips that you like. (Pretty cheap too).
  • You MAY also find that that the way you are holding the handlebar may be working against your injury. (Do your hands look like Hans Solo frozen in carbonite? A few minutes advice is likely to be free.)
  • You MAY find a few small fit adjustments can help. (Sometimes cheap, sometimes not.)
  • And you MAY find alternative handlebars that you like. (More expensive but can bring an absolutely delightful change.)

It is often possible to save money by buying non-cycling specific clothing. In the case of padded gloves, look at Mechanix-type gloves made for air impact tools at your local hardware store.

I pretty much agree with your review. If they don’t loosen up in time, I’ll probably order a L next time. I also rode with the Nashbars but wasn’t overly impressed with their durability. Ultimately went with the ACA offering when I needed a new pair because I wanted to support them.

I suggest HARDY Mechanics Gloves (from HARBOR FREIGHT regularly priced at $5.99 pair).
I wear these during the Fall and Winter and anytime the temperature that the temperature is below about 61 F.
It is very Hot and Humid during the Spring, Summer, and early Fall, that I wear quality Golf gloves, or no gloves at all.
I always have several new or nearly new Left hand , Golf gloves in my golf bag...
I simply buy a Right hand glove, that left handed golfers would buy, to use for the Right hand while bicycling
since I have plenty of Left hand gloves.
Most of the time, when it is warm, Spring through Fall, I ride without wearing any gloves!

The HARDY Mechanics Gloves (HARBOR FREIGHT item 62432 , item 62433, item 62434, item 62426, item 62428, item 62429, item 64178, item 64179)
There is at least one Super-Coupon valid through 02/28/20 that prices these at $4.99 pair.
They are sometimes sale priced slightly below $4.99 pair.
Even at the regular $5.99 per pair price, you can apply the 20 % off any single item standard coupon, so these gloves are a great bargain.
Be sure to try the gloves on while you're there in the Harbor Freight store.
My HARDY Mechanics Gloves are X-Large sized. You may find that the size that fits you in those HARDY gloves is larger than you might think.
They are great gloves for bicycling in the winter in The South, and for raking, yardwork, and other outdoor chores, as well as working on your old cars.

I do that with closed cell foam tied down with cable ties. It does not look pretty but it produces
"sofa bars".

I sometime purchase clear silicon pads from the 100 yen store and sew them into the mechanics gloves.

But, I can't find a replacement pair of very large sized over gloves like these, made by Shimano, for keeping my hands warm in deep winter.

For cycling in cold weather. I drill 5.5mm holes horizontally through the top, horny, part of my hoods, of my Shimano 105 brakes, which do not seem to adversely effect the performance of the brakes or shifting.

The stainless steel M6 bolts self tap themselves, threading into the plastic of the hoods to the extent that they do not even require a nut on the other side of the hoods. There is only one nut on each bolt, on the other side of the plastic fairing to keep it firmly in place. A piece of aluminum window sash serves to lengthen the bit that clamps into my bars as a bar ends. The fairings can be purchased from ebay for less than 20 USD. I paid 15USD. Search for "Clear Plastic Hand Guard Protector." I never get down so low that I need to look through them so (non-clear) plastic hand protector for a motorbike would be fine too.

11-12USD!

They are good. I highly recommend fitting some for the winter.

And yet another vote for the Specialized BG Gel gloves. I've had several pair over the last 6 years and they have been excellent gloves. I ride daily, averaging 40 miles/day, so gloves are very important for me.

Building the courage to buy the bits and then drill a hole in my Shimano hoods and get it done took time.

Once I had the courage it took about 40-60 minutes to make the things (the extensions) and 10 minutes
to fit -- at least in the case of my my 2nd (or rather now 1st) bike.

Now that the temperature is 3 degrees Celcius my hands get cold even with my fairings (especially if I am not in my drops) and my over gloves are very old.

Does anyone know of some very large single layer wind proof (over-)gloves? I need XXL 11cm palm gloves anyway, so my Shimano over gloves are extra large.

I got some of these from aliexpress (but not the supplier, probably) which are large enough
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3281...1-5c3471310d62
but the material was so think that they impede movement, even after I had removed the sweaty polythene liner. The shimanos are windproof but thin.
