I'm about to leave work (early) to camp, ride mountain bikes and drink beer all weekend with buddies at Mt. Laguna (6,000'). Off-season mode fully engaged. Stoked!!!

hey, it is Friday after all. Got any good weekend riding plans, @TimothyH?

I'll be doing some mellow flat/rolling meadow rides today, tomorrow evening and Sunday morning, and a 2,500' expert level descent (then climb) on Sat morning.

A 2500 ft descent takes a while. Jeronimo! Take some photos please?

Mt. Laguna - I'm enjoying some of the google photos of the place. The Pacific Crest Trail is nearby IIRC. Are you bikepacking or riding from a base camp?

Tomorrow I'm pre riding a gravel race course in Middle Georgia, the Red Clay Ramble. It will be solo for 60 miles in the land of Otis Redding. Only 2500 ft elevation so it should be fast, and hot.

A two or three day bikepacking trip is planned for May 29 to 31. Shelf roads, waterfalls, solitude...

Pretty hot work for lousy pay...

That does look cool. Maybe we can see one on a ride sometime.

Beautiful weather today, did a ~50 mile ride on the fixed gear in just under 3 hours. Had been dealing with some nagging knee pain recently which feels a lot better now, proving once and for all, I guess, that fixed gear riding is bad for your knees.

Today I degreased both of my geared bike chains and cassettes. Super messy, but now they are working really smoothly. Also did a 14 mile local gravel ride.

Today I looked at the weather and it says I can expect 50 mph wind and rain for my gravel race tomorrow. It gon' suck.

Two days ago I traded in my beloved Steamroller for a used Trek road bike Still tweaking fit, etc. Not ready for prime time so no photos yet.

Today I rode my bike with a full kit on for the first time in over a year. I did 30ish miles in light windy, sunny weather. It was nice. I felt good. Definitely need to keep this up and build endurance.

Poor angle shot, but that is a rather large ephemeral pool that will be gone in a couple months. Tadpools this trip will turn into a symphony of "ribbets" next time

Getting dark, no lights, time to head back to camp

@TimothyH I really am an awful photographer, but I do have a couple from Laguna last weekend. I rarely take photos. Also this was car camping, or riding from a "base camp" with all the amenities like a couple roll out rugs, shade structures, hammocks, a bike work stand and a cooler full of beer. I do enjoy backpacking/mountaineering so maybe I'll try bikepacking some day.

You do take good photos though. For your trip next weekend, is that the Colorado one you've been talking about? If so I will require photos of high alpine meadows

Isn't that pool, or others like it, are in many photos on the internet?

Rugs while camping sounds great. Substitute a coffee maker for beer and I'm in.

Colorado however, is out. I was >this< close to booking travel but my mom has some financial issues, daughter moving from Atlanta to Berkely, another entering college, etc. Life. When all is said and done, I just wasn't at peace with it. 2020 will be the year.

Next week I'm going to Tennessee.

Bummer, sounds like your making the right decision for you given the circumstances.

That pool is one of three that last into summer at Mt. Laguna. It is the most picturesque for sure (sorry for the bad photo), but a second equally popular one is much larger and teaming with life. The third is muddy and tons of the cows like to hang out there, but I like it for some reason.

One time we had to change direction near that third pool because a cow would not let us pass the single track. She had a calf following her and if we get within like 20 feet, she would lower her head and take a step forward. She was not messing around!

Stopped in at the LBS for a seatpost binder bolt. Was adjusting my saddle height last night and when I tightened it up, the bolt snapped in half. Made a crazy noise and the other end shot out of my frame and across the room. Never had something like that break on me before, and I'm not exactly Mongo with my wrenches so I don't know, maybe a bad bolt.

Fun evening on the bike planned. Leaving work at 4:30 to head to Fiesta Island so I can test out this TT bike I'm borrowing from 5-6. Then heading home to swap bikes, then to the track for a madison workout session starting at 7, should be good for another hour with some higher intensity.

Tore the sole off my shoe unclipping from my pedal today. Took it to the cobbler to get fixed; he said "should be ready by next Wednesday." Looks like I go back to toeclips and slotted cleats for now.

TodayA couple days ago I replaced the brake pads on my FG for the first time. A little extra "screech" when braking alerted me to the fact that I should do it soon. $12 for 11,000 miles worth of wear is a pretty good deal in my book.
