Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If you get the Shimano remote inline thing (D Fly?) and use a compatible bike computer, you will be informed of low battery status. The Wahoo will inform you of low Di2 and will inform you of low battery status on some power meters.

Not everyone.

Some people are a little obsessive about bicycle maintenance

Question. Have you notice the price coming down on the Di2?

I check it every Friday night when I'm checking tire inflation/wear, and chain lubrication.

I'm a weird mix of OCD and forgetful. Without any sarcasm at all: people smarter than me might be able to avoid it. I thought I could too until that one day. Part of me kind of wanted to see how far I could push it.

Other than that, I’m having difficulty coming up with reasons not to. I was contemplating a Di2 Ultegra bike for next spring, but now for the group set price one can get a whole bike. Yes, the rest of the components are mediocre, but again, for the price of the group set, you can have it delivered right to your door and be riding within an hour. There’s something to be said about that kind of convenience.
Agree. I'm in the middle of converting my commuter trek (FX-5s) into a gravel bike and am opting for mechanical GRX (if it ever becomes available) because I just want to hop on my bike and ride not ask myself "Is there enough charge for today's ride?"

It will? How exactly? or are you talking about manually checking battery status by clicking the back button, selecting Di2, then selecting "more info"?

Main problem is having to dc specifically from the app prior to dc from BT. Otherwise I found that Di2 then becomes nonfunctional.

Side problem is having to relearn the app each time as it is non-intuitive and I don’t use it much to have muscle memory. Looks like it was made for the iPhone 1.

Thats the issue. With most apps I don’t do an in-app dc. Just close it out swipe up and out. If I continue this habit with etube, Di2 ends up nonfunctional. Then I have to go back into the app and reconnect, specifically dc through the app, prior to closing out the app.

I found out the hard way when I made adjustments one night and the next morning tried going up the hill from my house and found I couldn’t change gears!

i find the AXS system much more intuitive and UX friendly.

Interesting, I don't think I always used to disconnect from the app because it wasn't really intuitive like you mentioned before. Since I had to press the button on the control box to put it in discovery mode, I think I just pressed it again to take it out....can't remember for sure.

I could see that as a good option although I haven’t tried. Thing is I don’t mess with the system much, so by the time I’m ready to change something, I’ve already forgotten what tips/tricks I’ve learned previously. 😅

Well, there was an update for my front derailleur yesterday when I checked, so you better get to opening the app lol.

Do you apply updates to your Di2 whenever an update is released? I ask because I have not updated my Di2 since purchasing my bike. Right now the Di2 system is working well, and I worry that updating the Di2 might introduce new problems. The old "if it isn't broken, don't touch it" kind of mentality.

I connect to my bike every now and then to check and if there is a update I will apply it. Never had an issue.
