Best song to push on through
What's that one song that ALWAYS picks you up & gets the pedals spinning. I have mine, but am open to more - y'see I often tire easily.
Today I was on my first real ride of this ND spring. Of course I rode into the wind to start. When I turned for home, somehow I was riding into the wind again!
Half way back & I am dragging! But, that one song came on - the one that makes me go, picks up the cadence, makes me smile ear to ear, & I remember how much fun it is.
For me, it's "I Gotta See Jane" by Golden Earring. But then it ended, I was back to the grind.
So give me more - name the song & artist that always helps.

You are out riding in nature. Why contaminate the experience with urban noise? Get in tune with yourself, your bike, and whatever is happening all around you. Cycling affords a chance to breath, think, recharge and get in touch with your environment. Happy 50th Earth Day!

Every time this subject comes up I go with this reply, to me the best cadence song there is with a consistent 6 minute bass line that drives through the whole song. That said it's always in my head not my ears.

On these incipient popcorn threads, there’s always a subscriber who goes off-topic to futilely dissusade those who listen to music. As an urban cyclist, to me urban noise is cars, trucks, sirens, horns, etc.

Indeed I have a subset of my playlist entitled "Hill Country" for that purpose, with continuous up-tempo tunes.
Apropos of a subscriber to the Fifty-Plus Forum, my playlist has Big Band tunes, and Rock and Roll Golden Oldies, rare songs after 1980.

There have been two recent contrarian threads on the Road Form, “How can you ride with music” and “How can you ride without music.” So IMO, the arguments have been well-debated.
I recently got an I-pod and have been voraciously seeking tunes with cycling in mind. My criteria are listed in this post...:

I use my cadence meter faithfully when I ride, but I only synch my cadence to the beat when going up hills if I want to raise my cadence. On stiff hills then, even a low cadence, say 50-60, can be beneficial. I select my playlist not only by tempo but by the melody and harmony. So on the flats or downhills, the music is a pleasant accompaniment.
My main criterion to put a tune on my playlist is "Do I want to hear this while struggling up a hill (and do I want to hear it more than once, since it is on my playlist)?".
BTW, don't knock Lawrence Welk; he had good musicianship. If you object to his tunes, IMO, Big Band standards (and Classic Rock) are great for cycling.

Hmmmm... I don't listen to a radio/MP3 or whathaveyou while riding, but I'll have a song in my head that helps me stay on cadence. Believe it or not, Disco has the right beat for my cadence. Think Earth Wind and Fire's 'Boogie Wonderland' or 'September.' AND it is 'happy music'....
