unfinished concrete basements give me the creeps. I don't think I ever set foot in my grandmother's basement once.

Torture chamber for front wheels, more like it. Jayzus, these pics are painful to look at. It's bad for the wheels to sit there under stress in just one position all the time. This is why wheels are meant to spin. Don't you guys know anything?
At least UnsafeAlpine got that aspect of it right a few posts above. But more properly, here's what you do: you buy a cheap-arse steel frame for $40 via Craigslist, put a half-decent spare rear wheel on it with one of those "trainer tires" from Germany (they work, they're good), get a rack hitch to attach your forks to, put it on some kind of home-made stand, and there you are.

Bullfeathers. Excessive stress for long periods of time on one small part of the rim will ultimately have an effect, however large or small.
Complete nonsequitur. The force on a mobile wheel is continually displaced and shifted, as was always intended with spoked bicycle wheels. Not so on a stationary wheel.

Come on, people have been riding stationary trainers for decades with no wheel issues.
This is a non-issue. Even if you really believed this, turn your wheel 1/4 turn every day.
Just make sure you line up your valves.

Excessive stress? how is sitting stationary "excessive" as opposed to running over potholes at 20mph?

Ayup...been using wind trainers of varied types for over 20 years using the front wheel with no adverse affects.
Disclaimer: I weigh 145 lbs and ride lightly too so that's not saying much for pressure on the wheel.

We moved from this apartment but we lived there for a year while looking for a place to buy. I jammed a LOT of stuff into the basement since we had pretty much no room elsewhere. I did a lot of hours down there, some 3+ hour rides, one 5+ hour marathon ride. Mainly I did 1-2 hour rides. Nowadays mainly 1 hour rides in a slightly nicer environment but much smaller than before.

This door is just wide enough to get a document box through, maybe 20-24" wide.
My dashboard.
My weight setup that no longer fits. I love the poster in the background.
To put things in perspective.

Here is mine. The recumbent is a RANS from the 1980's. The motivation comes from the cd-boombox, and the carnivorous plants (Nepenthes) growing in the terrarium in front of the bike.

Besides....everyone knows that the Cartoons show off the picture quality the best. What are they playing everytime you go into an electronics store? It's either some animated movie or some sporting event.

Don't mean to derail this post too much, but you can build a very impressive front-projector setup these days for under 3 grand.
Epson 1080UB w/ 120" powered drop down screen.
Cheaper than a 60" plasma.
Big screen doesn't mean the person is rolling in dough.
