Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stopped by Landis Cyclery to scope out potential Exile Bikes, while I was acclimitizing myself to the 115 degree heat.

Saw a roadie out on Scottsdale road at midday. That's harsh.

a little tip for you jonsey. Here is what I have done on several occasions. Find a servicable bike at a pawn shop,( the larger chain type if possible) explain to the manager that you are visiting and will be leaving in x amount of time. would it be possible to return the bike for .5 of purchase price at that time? I have done this several times inmy travels for work.

Awesome. I would have been side tracked by those as well.

Today's stage of The Tour made me think of Velo Gator - a bridge was the climb.

This ring combo will require higher cadences than the 52/40 set it replaces.

Here's one of the reasons I don't have a higher bike budget this year.

One good thing about being out here in AZ during The Tour is that I can watch the live coverage before work.

The downside is that it starts at 5am.

This thread makes me want to redo my '89 World Sport collecting dust in my parent's garage. Unsure though if it can take modern shifters as it had stem mounted shifters. Also, not sure if modern 700c wheels can replace the factory 27 inchers?

I replaced the original 27" wheels with 700c. You just need to make sure you have enough reach in the brake calipers. In my case, the stock brakes had 57mm of reach which was plenty. If you upgrade the brakes, make sure they are long reach.

I'm not sure about the shifters, but I'll bet you could search the C&V forum for a solution. I'll bet someone over there has done it before.

It looks kind of heavy.

On the other hand, it is fairly aero.

The worst part of riding the stationary 'bent is having to watch the news the whole time.

Having a swim and chilling by the pool after is not bad though.

That's brutal this week.

Did you know there is a movie called Mr. Jones?

As far as I know, there's no movie title with my last name.
