Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How much distance do you need to do?

The last two evenings I went out 75 minutes or so before sunset, intending to do a somewhat easy spin. I ended up going at it pretty hard because it felt so great out.

If I could do that year-round, I would not be too fat for this sport.

Our temps do not drop below 100 until after 930pm for the past week. I do 45min on the bike in the evening and lose 5-6lbs despite drinking 50oz of water. I wish I could figure out a way to ride in the morning, but I have to work.

I've been working on my swim during the week instead.

Nice bike Jonesy. It certainly must feel a bit different than the Schwinn.

Not too hot around here, especially in the mornings, about 68°. Begins to cool down from around 80° at about 7:30 giving just enough time to get a short ride in.

coasting should buy one of those Hongfu or Dengfu carbon frames and have his family ship him the components off his old bike. Problem solved.

I suppose I can post in here, as I Schwinn. Been commuting with it, and I must say, it is a fabulous bike. Hard part is forgetting I have downtube shifters, and realizing that after trying to move the shifters sideways.

Nice job, rjones. I was skeptical of the paint application method, but it looks great.

Another excuse he offered is that he has a very small living space right now and "doesn't have room" for a bicycle.

I think it has more to do with his new-found interest in watching Transformers and other such nonsense.

Oh I know. I didn't really drink enough during the first hour. I spent the rest of the evening on continous water intake.

Thanks LAJ. No Schwinn required to post here.

schWinning is an attitude, not just an old bike brand.

Now that's the way to do it. If you are golfing and land in a sand trap, just go get it and toss in onto the fairway.

I could ride to Stonehedge, but I stink at golf. It would be difficult riding with clubs, too.

The breeze feels more like a blow drier here than a breeze.

Water bottles are being chilled in anticipation of tonight's ride.

I did that the last couple of times I was out. It actually was hot water by the time I finished it, so I figure I'll try this today.

This. I keep the bottles in the freezer with some drink in them. Then fill them completely right before leaving.
