I don't like many of the other cage mounts, as the make the cage stick out like an inch from the tube.

+1 also. I used electrical tape around the top tube, then installed the clamps, holding a King Cage hanging on the down side, holding a UE Boom 2 Speaker.

This is how I bought my used bike. The bike is about 10 years old.
It came with slots for two bidon holders

Search online for 'author a6605 cycle' (without quotes). I have a photo of the bike but am not yet allowed to post links.

I have one in my old Bianchi, no issues with 750cc bottles.

For years I used a handlebar mount that centered the bottle in front of the stem. I used cable clamps with a section of innertube uneer the clamp because I put them on before the levers and tape. A second section of tube hid the clamp and blended with the black bar tape.

The only negative was a sharp bump could bound the bottle out. A micro-bungie fixed that. It was easily removable from the cage with one hand (and replaceble with one hand) when riding.
