Figured I'd post a couple shots of the slow progress. I am waiting for the crank set which is shipping slow boat from Italy. I have everything else to complete the project and I am pleased with it. The seat is not what I will use and the cables are just uncut housing right now. As usual click thumbs to make bigger.

Nice stuff, thanks for sharing your thoughts and pix. I've just finished the restoration of a Raleigh Technium (aluminum main tubes, steel for the rest) and am now interested in ALAN as a next bike. I'm 6'-8", 230#, so I'm looking for a 25-27" or 64-69cm seat tube size frame. Did ALAN make frames in that size? Who's got the info on these? I'm in the vicinity of Seattle. Thanks for all help.

Hm, you can find some catalog scans on google. Never seen one for sale here, most of the time there are about 8-10 ALAN's for sale here in the Netherlands, lot of them size 60 (tall people country). I do 't think a 60+ ALAN would be such a good idea - my 54 is already quite flexy, even under my 65 kg weight.

I don't know enough about them yet to determine anything except they are a pretty cool frame. I am hoping to have mine built this week to a point that I can test ride it for short distance. It seems there isn't a lot of info on them, but as stated if you poke around on the internet there are other forums as well as this one that offer bits and pieces.

The light isn't good and these are not the black wheels, but it's ready to ride when it gets nice out. Also the original decals on the seat tube are spaced farther apart than the new one, but I don't have the patience or steady hand to apply the letters one at a time.

The advantage with using the blue masking tape is that its easy to adjust the tape alingment and placement as needed and they do not leave any residue on the bike's frame tubes. Other types of tape are too sticky and harder to handle.

Good tips chombi. Had this been a restoration, I'd of taken the time to do a lot of detailing, but this was originally built for a cheap winter beater so I just cleaned it up a bit. I will probably never own a bike as nice as your Alan or any of the others for that matter.

Hey Chombi,
What seatpost and stem were you using on this Alan bike? I found a nice golden Alan frame (probably a Competition from the 70s) and I'm thinking about building it up to a nice racing bike, so I'm curious as to what components different people used on them.
