Picked this up this week. I assume this is a Specialized Sirrus because of the stem but it doesn't say so. Is it? What year?

Sirrus was 105 equipped and that's 1987-1989 Shimano New 105 rear derailleur and calipers. but the crankset appears to be lower level and brake levers appear to be Dia-Comp/SunTour. So, it's been frankenbiked to an extent. The Sirrus did convert to a Unicrown fork for 1989, it was available in white in 1989 and the head tube decal is consistent with 1989, so a 1989 Sirrus is a definite possibility. The serial number should confirm the year.

The bike looks to be a a very nice early's 80 frame set based on the lugs and seat stays that has been very nicely repainted and rebuilt.. If you give us a nice pic of the under side of the BB with serial number someone here can likely give you specifics up to sate it was made and actual builder company and maybe even actual builder. The knowledge and depth of the Japanese bike database here is very deep very good chance will get when were and who made it maybe even the indicidual builder.

The brake levers and crankset are Exage. The front and rear derailleur is an Exage 400EX. The brake calipers, shifters, and hubs are 105. There are 2 numbers on the bottom bracket shell: GL838209 and the other is 8H11 . According to the 1989 catalog, yes, that would make this a Frankenbike of sorts. I don't think this is a repaint as it is white with gold pearl. And there is a decal on the left chainstay that says "Designed in the USA, Made in Taiwan". I think they took the decals off. Or it's a lower end model.

Definitely late 80's Sirrus. I took a test ride on a NOS one in the mid-1990s (during the mountain bike craze).

The dealer told me road bikes were difficult to sell, so the Sirrus had been hanging around for years.

Very nice rider as I recall.

The subject fame was manufactured during weeks 23-34 of 1988 by Giant of Taiwan. This is late enough in the calendar year to be an early 1989 model if they were stockpiling frames. In 1989 the only SBI road models were the Sirrus, Allez and the carbon fibre Allez Epic variants. The Sirrus and Allez frames were identical except for colour schemes and the colour matches the Sirrus. The Exage 400EX components are obvious replacements, as that group did not debut until the 1990 model year, though why anyone would switch out New 105 for 400EX is beyond me.
