New city, old Clyde

I've been away from the forums for a while, save for a once-in-a-while check in, but I'll likely be back around more frequently now.

Things for the past couple years have been hectic. My wife has changed jobs a few times, so we've moved all around the country; from Seattle, to Atlanta (for only 7 months), to Philly (less than 2 years) and now on to Columbus, Ohio (we'll be there early next week.)

It's been rough on both of us, and me especially, trying to find new ride routes and people to ride with every time we move. Between a lack of riding, and going on antidepressants, my weight went back up to 260 from a race-weight low of 210 about 3 years ago.
When my wrist heals up in a couple months (got hit by a car while walking my dog a few nights ago), I need to start riding again. I'm hoping that there's a bunch of people in and around the Columbus, Ohio area who want to do some mid-distance road rides (80 - 100km) and when I get my new setup put together, maybe some bikepacking weekends to the surrounding State Parks with good campgrounds.

I was wondering what happened to you. Did you do any riding in the Wissahickon while in Philly?

I did ride the Wiss a bunch, and Belmont. I will miss both of those. It's nice having such great riding so close to the city.

Wait, I think you glossed over the "holy s***!" part in your original post. You got hit by a car?

When did you leave Philly? I am wondering if I saw you in Wissahickon. I sometimes ride Forbidden Drive and do hikes there in the fall and winter with my local club.

Columbus Outdoor Pursuits runs a good number of weekly events across Ohio when the spring rolls around; group rides from Dublin (NW of the city) were Tuesday evenings, normally about 40ish miles.

The local Trek store also runs group rides Sat+Sun mornings, again when the weather's a bit warmer

What part of Columbus are you going to be in?

awww, wow, hang in there! any chance you would consider taking up swimming? when I did a number of years ago I found it had a strong positive effect on my mood. I was awkward as heck starting out and was never really competitive but I improved a lot and from a personal best point of view I was quite proud. it's also pretty safe and easy on the body. good luck

I'm south of campus, right downtown, so the downtown Y is just a few blocks away. I'm pretty sure about joining up there since they have a pool and free weights. But with my busted wrist, I still can't swim until another month at least, same as riding my road bike. I managed to get out on my grocery rig with the trailer yesterday, since it's an upright setup and I can steer with one hand.

We left the day after Christmas. If you didn't see me at the Wiss, you might have seen me at Breakaway, if you brought bikes there for work. I remember seeing a couple IF bikes in there, and I remember most of the Engin frames that came through.

Ah, getting hit by a car while walking... rite of passage! I'm still recovering 18 years later. (which is another way of saying ignoring the effects and taking a few extra advil to do what I want to do)

I hope you get over it soon.

The Columbus airport has the best free wifi I've ever come across, so that's a plus.
