Derrière too wide??
So apparently my seat bones appear to be 13mm (I hope I'm saying that right) and the shop did not own a saddle on that side. I'm 5'11" and weight about 200 pounds. Do you guys hear about this before? are there any saddles you guys recommend for speed/long distance? thanks in advance

Hi. welcome to BF. I would imagine that if you are starting out any decent sized saddle would do you for the first few weeks.

13 mm sounds way too small. Most folks have sit bone widths in the 35 to 48 mm range. How are you measuring? If you need help ask the folks at any bike shop.

Maybe 13cm or 130mm?
There are lots of choices in wider saddles. Check the Serfas site -- big range from sport to comfort saddles, with dimensions listed. Very affordable too.
My comfort hybrid came with a very wide saddle, much wider than I need but it's still comfortable to me in the upright riding position. It's just generic vinyl covered, heavily padded with a spring. The only bikes I'd need a narrower saddle for are those with a more forward leaning riding position. But even my road bike has a wider saddle than I'd need, yet it's still comfortable -- Lycra stretched over firm foam, breathes well especially in hot muggy weather on long rides.

I was under the impression that most sit bone spacings were up around 90-130mm.
There are plenty of saddles for people with 130mm sit bone spacings. You should be able to fit on 140s or 145s just fine.

35-48? I'm confused. Are we measuring literal width of each bump left by each individual sit bone?

Sit bones = ischial tuberosities. Average folks don't know what either is. Cyclists know sit bones. Healthcare folks know ischial tuberosities.

The answer to every saddle question ever is : Brooks B17.
LOL. JK, but it is for some folks.

you sit on the sit bones.. the more upright the posture, the typical choice is a wider saddle ..

Bought the Novara Randonee instead and I am switching to a Brooks Flyer (sprung B17) a year later...

Are you saddle shopping in Australia?

I will only mention that my Champion Flyer sprung saddle is almost impossible to rig with a seat bag, and I include the offerings from Brooks.

I had a co-worker ask me where he could find a saddle to fit his, um, wider butt. Before bursting into laughter, I managed to spit out..."the Smithsonian?"

I have a wide bum too. I use a WTB Comfort Comp saddle that's about 170mm wide. Perfect for distance riding. I just picked up a cheap SMP saddle from Chain Reaction Cycles as well, it's about the same width.

Ya know, I've got half a mind to start responding to these questions with "It's impossible to determine without a photograph or Xerox of the posterior in question. Please post", just to see what happens. Trouble is, I'm afraid too many fat a**es like me could comply.

My sit bones width was measured at 138mm. I ride an SMP Pro saddle, which measures at 148mm wide. Works fine for me. SMP has a couple more in their line that are even wider, if that's what suits you. Expensive, but excellent saddles. See if you can give them a test.
