Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tubeless sucks - I'm going back to tubes.

Had to make the call of shame today - the sealant wouldn't even take care of this little puncture.

Could you, theoretically, put a dollar bill and a tube in that if you had to?

Please say this is sarcasm.... Your tube would have failed and that tire is done for.

Tubeless is the way to go.

I'll go with the idea that he's teasing us. That is one cut up tire!

Possibly - the cut is actually a little worse than it looks (it continues under my thumb a little). I had a tube with me, but because of circumstances, it made more sense to make the call rather than roll the dice.

My dumb tubeless tire wouldn't seal either. I mean come on, that's barely a scratch. A flesh wound at worst.

What about some gorilla tape on inside and remounting?

I rode about 20 miles on a gator hardshell (tube type) that looked like the second photo. Biggest issue was narrow clearance chainstays, otherwise I would have done a century ride on the patched tire.

Not worth it to me. Fixing a flat is WAAAY less trouble than that tubeless mess.

+1

2-3 times a year I get a cut like that, and there's no way I'm gonna deal with that mess on the road.

Looks like that would have destroyed any tire just less me if you were using tubes.

I've booted tires with cuts like that, installed a tube and limped home. No mess.

Some of you people must be messy. Sealant is water soluble. Any cleanup is a breeze.

I ride in the desert, and water often isn't available for cleaning up the mess.

Seems like riding a bike in the desert without water should = death, no?

The point is, why should there be ANY cleanup?

Yes. Using the drinking water I carry to clean up a mess, could equal death.

Therefore, Tubeless tires = Death

If I had tubeless this stewpid stunt would not have mattered. I was on my last ride with a very worn out tire. I was curious how far does one have to skid before the tire blows. Well in this case about ten feet and when it blew it was like "you DS you just ruined a good tube".

what the heck are you guys hitting to do that to a bike tire ? Artillery shrapnel in a war zone ?

I've been riding for over 30 years and only had one failure, a panaracer clincher tire where the casing failed and split it from bead to bead straight across (luckily only a mile from my vehicle)
