From my experience, yes. The clicking is likely bearings and the wobble (in my case) got progressively worse on my Trek 800 Sport till I put it in the shop.

Might could just adjust the bearings. I'd disassemble it, clean, lube and reassemble and see what it does with properly adjusted bearings. It is the old style bb with spindle, bearings and cups.... right?

Depending on what you are seeing and how much, a little play is not too terrible a thing.

I'm assuming the bb is for an old trek 330 since that's you tag. But it'd really help if you gave some more info on what it is.

That you have play at some spots but not others suggests that the bottom bracket shell may need facing. This may or may not solve your clicking problem.

That never inhibited recommendations and suggestions based on pure guesswork in the past.

If it's a cartridge bb and you are certain that's where the noise is, then replace it. If you aren't doing any rides that demands that the bike function perfectly, or if the clicks don't drive you nuts just wait till it's a real problem.

However bb's are fairly inexpensive. So don't fret too long before deciding one way or the other.
