Bianchi Content -- Scored a Rekord

Hi All,

I am working at home today and snagged this Rekord 842. Some of the paint is a little rough, but the mechs are sound and all work. It was a rider and a racer. What can our Bianchi experts tell me about it? Thanks.

Yes. I have actually been shedding a few bikes, but this seemed like a good opportunity for a Celeste Bianchi. I may even do a full period restore on this one and avoid my predilection to mod and turbo my toys.

Thanks Guys. Yes, next to helping my son get ready to leave for college next week, this is the most productive thing I've done. Oh well, I'll hit it again tonight while watching the Olympics.

I think this will be a fun project. Up on the rack for now. The Man Cave is a solar oven right now. When it cools in a month or so, I'll tear it down to nubs and rebuild.

Has anyone come up with a good formula for Celeste Green? I'm guessing a fairly light green with a touch of blue.

From the headbadge you can tell it was originally imported to Canada.

Interesting! What is the distinction with US imports?

The small vials of celeste touch-up paint you can buy from the bianchi website are a spot-on match for the bianchi bikes of this era.

I would have looked at this one instead:
https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/bik/3197411814.html

Exceptional all original condition except newer hoods / cinelli tape
Some paint loss on DT
Complete Campagnolo super record groupset, tubular sprinter tires.

+1. I got this. It was a good match. Can't go wrong for the price.

I was guessing it found its way here from the other side of the pond but Canadain bikes were different then. The tubing decal and the model name is what tipped me to a non US market bike, also there were not many Record (Rekord) models listed in the US catalogs.

Judging by the specs (that is an Ofmega crank? what are the hubs? I would say it is a Nuovo Alloro/ Campione de italia level bike from '84ish although the clamp on shifters could point to an older frame, that style decal can into vouge on midlevel bikes in '83/84 here in the US.

What are the brake levers? I believe that is a 980 Gear or maybe a 990?

I'm guessing more like 79-80. Here is the closest I've found.

The decals do not match and the components are different as well. Those decals did not come along on bikes of this level until '83ish. Is there a brand on the crank backs? or chainwheel bolts? Cups?

Have to disagree. 1981 was the last year for the clamp on DT's. Also, Rekord disappeared from the catalog after 1981. In addition, this frame has the bottle cage bolts brazed into the frame. The 1979 Rekord did not have brake cable guides. This one does. In my mind, this brackets the frame in the 79-80 time frame. Also, I have to think that the Rekord number, i.e., 842, 845, has to mean something in terms of progression.

This is the closest I've come in finding the model.
