I thought I was losing it. Every so often over the last week I'd hear a sound, like something hitting the ground while riding. I'd look around, see nothing, and move on. Today I discovered the source: a hole in the saddle bag. Most of what was in the bag, tire levers, a small pill box, and a few other minor items has been falling out and making the noise. It's duct-taped for now, and the most expensive item, the multi-tool, remained. Can't understand how the bag, which is only a couple of hears old developed a hole, but it did.
Just good to know I'm not losing it, I guess.

Bummer.
I find myself checking the zipper on my bag a couple of times a ride, I'd probably be really unhappy if the bag developed a hole and started dropping things.

How close is your saddle bag to your rear tire?

I'm glad to hear your wallet, cash and/or cell phone wasnt one of the potentially lost items. Yikes. Saddlebags...I got into mine during a break and forgot to zip it closed. Lost my snacks before I caught it. Kicked myself all the way home but did manage to laugh when I got home.

It's surprising how hard it is to wsee something we think might have fallen out of a bag, pocket or off the bike when we don't know what the item was. We get home and discover the missing item and sometimes go back to look for it and find it and then wonder why we didn't see it before when we looked. I think there are Bicycling Gremlins that follow us and hide stufff we lose then put it back on the road for others to find.
My lates was a spare tubular tire that fell off its home under the saddle. I was exhausted when I got back home but due to the cost of that tire I went looking for it and found it 30 iles away. So an extra 60 miles ride that day after riding about 120 miles.
Cheers

I have holes in my nylon golf bag - squirrels! They smell any food items you might have in the bag and go after it with their sharp little teeth and claws. One learns to never leave your golf bag unattended. Could be you had a rodent sneak attack.

[QUOTE=Miele Man;18239736]You looked around but didn't see anything on the road? Sounds more like the eyesight is going. ;<) LOL VBEG]
Eyesight is a little weaker, but I did have my Rudys on, so I have no excuse. But when you don't know what to look for it's nearly impossible to find anything. Oh, well. Total replacement cost of the bag and lost stuff is only $40. Could've been worse. I think I need to store some stuff, like the steel tire spoons, in something that will prevent them from eating through the bag.
